William disliked ‘opinionated’ Meghan - news.com.au

Prince William had a problem with “opinionated” Meghan Markle from the very start of her romance with Harry, claims a new royal book.

Omid Scobie’s highly-anticipated and controversial book Endgame was released this week, and numerous claims within its pages have already left royal followers shocked.

According to Scobie, Markle’s arrival into the family was a “jolt to the system” and immediately left William “concerned that he [Harry] was moving too fast with someone who had lived a life so far removed from that of his brother.”

It seems Markle had an uphill battle from the get-go with the family, but especially William, with Scobie claiming that Will believed that their different “upbringings” and “nationalities” made her an “outsider”.

“[Their romance came] at the expense of the family image,” said Scobie “It was felt that Harry was rushing into something that had serious blowback potential.”

Things then came to a head when Harry allegedly accused William of not making Markle feel welcome.

Scobie said that leaks soon began to emerge from the Palace that claimed William “truly didn’t like Meghan”, and that he had told aides and family members that he believed her to be too “opinionated”.

As a result of Harry’s siding with Markle, “William shifted away from acting like a brother and became more like someone only focused [on the Crown]”.

As Harry and Markle’s romance became more intense, so did the rumours surrounding the brothers.

Sadly, things between the pair have gone from bad to worse in the years since Markle first entered the inner-circle.

It’s widely understood that William has no intention of speaking to his brother for the foreseeable future, with members of his inner circle indicating there may be no way back for their relationship.

In the new book, Scobie also opened up about his own personal experience with William, describing how he’d noticed a huge shift in his demeanour over the years.

“William was always someone that brought kind of a ray of sunshine to royal engagements, he was happy, he was always willing to have a bit of banter with you, he was interested in the people around him,” the author recalled.

“And the man I see before me today is, of course, taking the job more seriously … But there’s a harder, almost more worn-down demeanour to William as well.”

Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, published by HarperCollins, is now available as an ebook, with hard copies in Australian stores from tomorrow.
