The awards, held at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion, attracted a wide range of Aussie artists to the red carpet, including international pop sensation Troye Sivan, Adelaide singer Peach PRC, favourite Jessica Mauboy and performer G Flip.
Ghanaian-Australian singer Genesis Owusu took out the top award for Album of the Year and made a powerful speech calling for a "ceasefire now" in Gaza and ending with "free Palestine".
Owusu said he made the album about a roach.
"It's about humanity and our stubborn perseverance to wake up every day and make it through an oppressive existence," he said.
"There are atrocious, atrocious things happening in the world right now that I think as a community, we should be putting our minds, hearts and bodies behind to stop it at any junction that we can."
Dolly Parton made a guest appearance via video to present a country music award.
