Prince William has had to dodge an awkward question about his finances during a visit to a youth organisation in Manchester after being put on the spot by a young boy.
The UK’s Mirror reports that the Prince of Wales was cheekily asked how much was in his bank account while chatting to schoolchildren at the Hideaway Youth Project, which aims to tackle youth violence.
“How much do you have in your bank account?” an 11-year-old reportedly asked him, eliciting a laugh from the future King, who admitted he “didn’t know” the exact sum.
William also cracked a joke when asked whether he wanted to join the organisation’s art project, where the children were cutting out “empowering and positive” hairstyles.
“I’m literally the last person you should ask,” he quipped, “my hair is disappearing.”
The visit coincided with the prince’s Royal Foundation and local politician’s office’s announcement that they were donating £50,000 ($95,000) each, totalling $190,000, to bolster the work of the Manchester Peace Together Alliance, which works with the Hideaway Youth Project.
William’s outing came as unflattering new claims were made about his relationship with his younger brother, Prince Harry.
In an excerpt from Endgame published in People magazine, royal author Omid Scobie claimed Harry was left “in the dark” and “completely by himself” as he scrambled to see his grandmother in the hours before her death while his brother “ignored” him.
Sources reportedly told Scobie that after Charles instructed his son to get to Balmoral “immediately” as the late Queen’s health declined.
Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly then left to “operate in the dark” with no communication from his family, despite being told that William had secured a flight with his uncles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, along with Edward’s wife, Sophie.
“It was upsetting to witness,” Scobie quotes a source close to the Sussexes.
“[Harry] was completely by himself on this.”
“William ignored him,” another source said. “He clearly didn’t want to see his brother.”
In another section of the book, Scobie claimed that William has been telling everyone in his inner circle that Harry and Meghan “blindsided the family” with their public airing of their grievances, describing their “oh so California self-importance”.
According to the royal author, the Prince of Wales believes Harry has been “brainwashed by an army of therapists” and says he “no longer recognises his own brother”.

Following the January release of the Duke of Sussex’s tell-all memoir Spare, in which William and Kate were regularly painted in an unflattering light, Scobie claims the Prince of Wales feels “a huge amount of anger”.
“He feels betrayed and sad about the situation. But he also doesn’t agree with the things his brother feels he has done,” a source close to William reportedly told Scobie.
“He feels he has lost Harry and doesn’t want to know this version of him.”
