It’s been just over a week since former Neighbours star Natalie Bassingthwaighte debuted her new partner Pip Loth but her happiness has quickly turned to heartbreak.
In a video posted to Instagram (watch above) the Rogue Traders frontwoman posted a plea for peace after being attacked by vicious trolls over her new love.
Bassingthwaighte began by thanking fans for the love and support she’d received before revealing that: “on the flip side with love comes hate”.
“And I’m not a hater. I’ve never been a hater. I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how people have time to go on peoples’ pages and comment so viciously and horrifically and intentionally make people feel awful.
“It’s not accepted on my page and I won’t have it.”
Bassingthwaighte revealed that her team will be blocking anyone who writes negative comments on her posts.
“They’ll be blocking anyone who says anything negative towards anyone that I love, and that includes my family, that includes Cam, that includes my kids and that includes my girlfriend,” she said.
“Be kind. You don’t know what people are going through, you really don’t, and it’s a dangerous slippery slope.
Hate just brings more hate. And I don’t have any hate in my life. I don’t, I’m happy, I’m safe and well and I wish you nothing but the same.
Bassingthwaighte’s followers quickly filled the comments with messages of support.
“I’m so happy to hear you are getting rid of all the negativity. I don’t get it either. I guess happy people don’t do that to others. These trolls have sad, miserable lives. I support you 100%,” Today Show correspondent Megan Castran wrote.
“LOVE you Nat. We all have your back. ❤️❤️❤️,” actress Rebecca Gibney wrote.
“Oh Nat. Yes. All of this,” Morning Show host Kylie Gillies wrote.
Reports that Bassingthwaighte had separated from her husband of 12 years Cameron McGlinchey began circulating in August before she went Instagram official with Loth.
Loth is a stage manager at the Queensland Theatre Company who has worked in theatre and live productions for close to a decade.
Just two days ago they wrote in an Instagram post: “Appreciation post for the most incredible woman who is not only giving me strength, support, love and immense joy, but is teaching me to understand and accept that I am deserving of these things and have them within myself too.
“She’s teaching me to breathe deeply, to trust and to be my truest self. I am so incredibly lucky and overwhelmingly grateful for you @natbassingthwaighte. 🌈❤️🔥”
Bassingthwaighte has previously said she was terrified about coming out in a same-sex relationship.
In an interview with Stellar magazine, Bassingthwaighte said the public interest in her relationship “was terrifying from the get-go.”
“Since it first happened, I was waiting for someone to say something. And it just felt like I wasn’t ready,” she said.
“The hardest part was getting a phone call to say, the media know … they want a comment. I felt very overwhelmed.”
