Jared Leto and his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, have announced their extensive Seasons 2024 World Tour in spectacular fashion.
The rock band will hit Latin America, Europe, North America and New Zealand before embarking on the Australian leg in September 2024 – and the actor and singer celebrated the exciting news by climbing one of the world’s most iconic buildings: the Empire State Building.
Rocking an orange jumpsuit and ropes for the climb, Leto, 51, could be seen scaling the legendary tower, which stands 443 metres tall in the New York City skyline.
“The building is a testament of all the things that can be done in the world if we put our minds to it, which is largely the inspiration behind our most recent album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day,” Leto said in a statement.
In an Instagram post, Leto, an avid climber, further explained his decision to partake in the stunt, which made him the first ever person to legally climb to the top of the Manhattan landmark.
“I’ve had a fascination with the Empire State Building, the ‘world’s number one attraction’, since I was a kid,” he wrote alongside photos and a video of the climb. “Not sure if it was Guinness world records, King Kong, but something about this iconic structure always captured my imagination. Built in just 13 short months, in one of the greatest cities in the world it has always been a powerful symbol to me of all the possibilities in life.”
Leto added that he loves to climb because it takes him away “from some of the pressures of life” and helps him find “a bit of freedom and equanimity”.
“In a lot of ways, this album is about following your dreams and pushing yourself to do the seemingly impossible,” he continued.
“Climbing the Empire State Building certainly falls into that category for me. As does touring the world with my brother and sharing these unforgettable concerts and experiences with you all.”
“We are so excited to get back out on the road and to come see you in so many amazing places all over the world. It’s been too long. We miss you. We love you. We’ll see you very soon!!!”
Thirty Seconds to Mars was formed in 1998. The line-up has undergone various changes over the years, but frontman Leto and his brother, drummer Shannon Leto, have been consistent members throughout.
This tour marks the band’s first headline tour in more than five years. After a long five years, they also made a triumphant return to the charts with the release of their aforementioned album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day.
The album’s lead single, Stuck, officially debuted at #1 on the Alternative radio chart and scored a top 10 hit in Italy, marking the fastest chart climb of the band’s career. Their new single, Seasons, is also currently sitting pretty in the top three of the German airplay charts.
