Vidgen ‘traumatised’ by the music industry - news.com.au

Jack Vidgen has revealed the sad reason why he’s been taking a break from the music industry.

The Australia’s Got Talent winner, who also appeared as a contestant on the 2019 season of The Voice, told fans in a new Q&A on Instagram that he felt “traumatised” by his past experiences.

“I’m kind of traumatised by the industry and really lost my love for it all again,” the 26-year-old admitted.

However, Vidgen explained that his passion was “slowly coming back”.

“I’ve booked some exciting gigs/shows for next year that I’m looking forward to working on,” he told his 91,000 followers.

“I’m excited to bring the glam and performing together.”

Vidgen added that he was also keen to share some of his musical wisdom by getting into coaching.

The reality TV star – who has appeared on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! and The Challenge Australia – first hit stardom in 2011 at the age of just 14 after winning Australia’s Got Talent, and went on to release two albums within two years.

After a burst of fame, Vidgen stepped back from the spotlight during his teenage years before returning to television as a contestant on The Voice in 2019, making it all the way through to the semi-finals before being eliminated.

That same year, Vidgen explained why he stopped singing after AGT in an interview with Who magazine.

“I think I just burnt out,” he told the publication. “I just fell out of love with singing.”

Vidgen has also spoken candidly about his past battle with addiction, revealing in 2022 that he nearly died after a drug overdose the previous year.

On Carla from Bankstown’s OMG Bro podcast, he explained that he had a “history with substance abuse” which he believed was “definitely stemming from trauma” associated with being in the public eye from such a young age.

Vidgen took a month-long break from social media across August and September, before re-emerging with a message about his “life shift” for his fans.

“I have just needed some distance from socials to realign with my values and who I am as a person.”
