Princess Catherine and Prince William are taking their young family to Norfolk for some downtime after the 42-year-old's cancer announcement sent shock waves around the world.
It has been reported the Wales clan are set to seek refuge at their beloved Anmer Hall country residence for the Easter break to spend the next few weeks out of the public gaze.
Kate and William were spotted leaving Windsor on a helicopter on Saturday, just hours after the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis.
It is understood the family will not attend church at Windsor's St George Chapel on Easter Sunday, according to the Daily Mail, with Prince William not expected to resume royal engagements until after his children to return to school on April 17.
Claims have also surfaced that Kate held off two weeks to deliver her news so it would line up with the last day of school for her kids - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Speaking to BBC radio, The Sun Editor Victoria Newton speculated the timing of Princess Kate's announcement may have been intentional to shield her children from the public eye.
"It was actually, I understand, that the Princess made the decision two weeks ago that she was going to do this public statement," Ms Newton said.
"The key thing for her as a mother, the priority was protecting those three children.
"She didn't want them going to school, being asked even more than they already were.
"They were already being affected at school, so it was always her plan that she would wait until the last day of term."
Ms Newton said the three young royals would already have likely endured an "incredible amount of social media speculation" which would be "really hard for them to handle".
An insider told People Magazine that Kate "wrote every word" of her two-minute video message herself as she wanted to deliver the news "personally" and when the "time was right".
In her emotional announcement, shared on Instagram on Friday evening, Kate said it had been an "incredibly tough last couple of months".
She spoke about her abdominal surgery, and despite the procedure being a success, the Princess said cancer was found to be present.
"This of course came as a huge shock and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family," the 42-year-old said.
"As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment."
The Princess' announcement followed weeks of heightened speculation about her health, after she was not spotted in public since she underwent surgery at The London Clinic.
The mother-of-three explained she was undergoing a course of preventative chemotherapy, as advised by her medical team.
Princess Catherine said it also took time to tell her three children "in a way that's appropriate for them".
"As I've said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind, body and spirits," she said in the video.
Kate was said to return to royal duties after Easter, but Kensington Palace has since clarified the Princess will resume work when she is cleared to do so by her medical team.
Kensington Palace also revealed the Prince and Princess of Wales have received an outpouring of "kind messages" from people around the world in response to the cancer news.
A spokesperson said the couple were both "enormously touched" by the response to Kate's message, adding the pair were "extremely moved by the public's warmth and support".
