After blazing its way through awards season, the blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer took home the most Oscar trophies this year, including Best Picture.
The film, which grossed more than US$953.8 million ($1.4 billion), had 13 nominations ahead of the 96th Academy Awards.
This gave it a strong chance of breaking a decades-old record for the most Oscar wins by a single film.
So how did it fare? We take a look at whether Oppenheimer dominated the all-time list of award-winners too.
What is Oppenheimer about?
If you still haven't seen it, Oppenheimer is a three-hour historical drama that follows the life of American theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer.
The movie focuses on how Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, spearheaded the invention of the atomic bomb during World War II.
It also explores the moral and political issues he faced in creating this deadly weapon, which would later be used in the US bombings of Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
"We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb, and for better or worse, we are living in Oppenheimer's world," Murphy said as he held his first Oscar for Best Actor on Monday.
"So I would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere."
The win caps a successful awards season for the 47-year-old Irish actor who also picked up a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild award for his performance.
While Oppenheimer is steeped in nuclear science, Murphy had previously said he "didn't really waste too much time on the physics" to prepare for the role.
Instead, he honed in on the "humanity and the emotion, and the complexity and the morality of the character".
How many Oscars has Oppenheimer won?
Oppenheimer has won seven Oscars after being nominated in 13 categories, making it the biggest victor of the year.
Having clinched 22 other awards at this year's major ceremonies, the film now has a total haul of 30 trophies.
This brings to a close the Barbenheimer battle, which began when Barbie and Oppenheimer were released at the same time in July last year.
The Mattel doll movie won out at the box office after grossing US$1.45 billion ($2.2 billion).
But it lost on the awards front after it failed to pick up major award categories this season and only nabbed a single Oscar for Best Song.
British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan had been favoured to win the Oscar for Oppenheimer after racking up Best Director trophies all of this awards season.
Known for his cerebral films, Nolan had lost out on Oscars for Memento in 2002 and Dunkirk in 2019, but he finally clinched the statuette on Monday.
In his acceptance speech, he thanked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the honour and noted that movies are just a little over 100 years old.
"We don't know where this incredible journey [of film] is going from here," Nolan said.
"But to know that you think I am a meaningful part of it means the world to me."
In the Supporting Actor category, Robert Downey Jr also claimed his first Academy Award.
The 58-year-old actor, who was nominated for an Oscar in 1993 before his career was derailed by drug use, won his honour for playing Oppenheimer's professional nemesis Lewis Strauss.
"I'd like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order," Downey joked before he saluted his wife, Susan.
He said she had found him as a "snarly rescue pet" and "loved him back to life".
Where does Oppenheimer rank among the top Oscar winners?
Three films are tied for most Oscar wins in history.
Ben-Hur, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King hold 11 Academy Awards each.
Oppenheimer has fallen short of that, after losing six of its 13 nominations.
It did not win Best Adapted Screenplay, which went to Cord Jefferson for American Fiction. It also lost Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Production Design, which were all won by Poor Things.
Emily Blunt lost to Da'Vine Joy Randolph in The Holdovers in the Best Supporting Actress category and Oppenheimer lost to Zone of Interest for Best Sound.
While seven Oscars still puts Oppenheimer among the most accomplished films ever, it's a pretty long list.
