The Married At First Sight annual couples retreat has been less than relaxing for some after an alleged cheating scandal among the group came to light.
Monday night’s episode was a juicy one—between jealousy over a condemned sexual spark and a heated argument—there’s a bit to unpack, so settle in.
The couples get ready for their trip to sunny Byron Bay, the next phase described by the experts as an “exciting and important phase” in the experiment.
Perth bride Lauren is keen for “crystals, hippies and Hemsworth’s”, but according to Lucinda, her hubby is more excited about “anal probing” than a trip to the coastal NSW town.
With the retreat well and truly underway, Michael and Stephen begin to inform the group about their relationship struggles of late.
When Stephen was getting his hair done during the week, Michael witnessed his husband “flirting with the hairdresser” in what was a “30-second sexual spark”.
On the way back to the hotel, Michael told producers he saw Stephen “texting and smiling” and when asked who he was talking to Stephen had no shame in admitting it was the hairdresser.
The pair then discussed their future together and how Michael now feels “hurt and betrayed”, to which he took his ring off and walked out of the hotel room.
But it made Stephen realise what his relationship was missing. And keep in mind he previously admitted to not being physically attracted to Michael.
Back to the retreat where the troubled couple is confiding in the group.
“I felt like it was a massive emotional cheat,” Michael said in front of everyone.
As Sara came to Stephen’s defence, Michael was not impressed.
Michael said that after Stephen’s “sexual awakening” with the hairdresser, his husband didn’t want anything to do with him.
Cassandra jumped in to call out Stephen’s feelings, but Sara stepped in to take Stephen’s side.
“I feel like if all of us went off a physical spark, none of us would be in happy relationships because that is such a fleeting moment of lust,” Cassandra said.
“His point is that he’s tried for three weeks to really...” Sara began before Michael cut her off in an outburst.
“No, he has not,” he said as he continued to get his point across.
“Can you just relax for a second,” Sara said in disbelief.
“No, I’m not going to relax – I’m annoyed right now. You worry about your own relationship,” he hit back.
“Are you serious, Michael? You’re hurt, and I get that but stop lashing out at people,” she yelled.
“You’re making no sense to me because you’re shallow,” Michael snapped. “Shut up right now; you’re getting on my nerves.”
You could cut the air with a knife, and the room was that tense as silence came over the group.
And to make things a little worse, Sara’s husband Tim did not come to her aid during the fiery exchange.
Tori told producers: “I was looking at Tim like... say something. Do anything other than sitting, sipping, taking it all in.”
The next morning, Sara called out her husband for not backing her during the argument.
Continue the cringe binge on Tuesday night at 7.30pm.
