Sydney Sweeney's new Saturday Night Live promo slammed for capitalising on her looks | news.com.au — Australia's leading news site - news.com.au

Sydney Sweeney fans are calling out Saturday Night Live writers for emphasising the well-endowed actress’ looks in a new promo video for this week’s upcoming show.

Sweeney, who is hosting the episode, appears alongside musical guest Kacey Musgraves and SNL cast member Heidi Gardner in the clip that was released on Thursday, February 29.

“Girl power! Love this group of three strong ladies. I bet so many women are gonna tune in this weekend,” Gardner says, to which Sweeney replies, “Weirdly, a lot of my fans are men.”

Musgraves then dryly adds, “Hmm. I wonder why.”

The underlying “joke” here is that men are and have been infatuated with the conventionally attractive Sweeney — and, more specifically, her breasts — ever since she first appeared topless in Euphoria.

Because of this, fans are fuming that “bored” SNL writers chose to hone in on the star’s looks — despite the fact that she has a long list of accomplishments, including an Emmy nomination for The White Lotus and a role in the box office hit Anyone But You, which was partially produced by her production company Fifty-Fifty Films.

Before Saturday comes let me just speak to the snl writers,” one fan commented under the promo video. “I see what you’re about to do … please don’t.”

Another added, “They’ve got 48 hours to come up with some better material,” while a third person wrote, “I hate this for her.”

Someone else said, “These snl writers need to be FIRED. She has become a tool of sexualisation for straight men … I feel so bad for her.”

Sweeney has been open about her body image in previous interviews, telling Glamour UK that she was “glad” she listened to her mum’s advice and refrained from getting breast reduction surgery.

“Once I became more confident with myself, [it changed]. I want to show girls that it’s amazing and beautiful and empowering to have the bodies that we have,” she said. “Everybody’s body is beautiful. When you are confident and you’re happy within is when it really shows to other people. … Flaunt what you got. Own it. Love them.”
