Star goes casual in Syd while fans beg for tix - news.com.au

Fred Gibson, known by his stage name Fred Again, is touring Australia and has apparently surprised himself with his own popularity.

He performed at The Sydney Opera House on February 27 to a sold-out show, which he had only announced earlier that same day.

The gig managed to attract a huge crowd on a Tuesday night, which speaks to Gibson’s power.

Gibson’s Sydney show wasn’t enough and he took to Instagram two days later and declared that, obviously, he didn’t travel all day to Australia for just one show and announced seven more shows.

He is playing three shows in Melbourne at Rod Laver from March 4 to 6, then three shows in Sydney at the Qudos Bank Arena from March 12 to 14 and along with one show in the Gold Coast on March 9 at a yet to be announced location.

Aussies were desperate to get their hands on tickets, with many camping out for the chance, and the shows sold out within hours.

Gibson was shocked by the interest and took to Instagram to say that he didn’t mean to leave so many fans “disappointed.”

He said he thought the shows were already “ambitious” enough and didn’t expect so many people to want to come.

“I didn’t think we’d be leaving over 90 per cent of people disappointed. So obviously, thank you, but it genuinely makes me sad seeing all your messages,” he confessed.

He also said that he didn’t want to play stadiums because he wasn’t sold on the sound quality but also added he’d been replying to disappointed fans’ messages and putting them on the guest list.

He said he knew that wasn’t the perfect “answer” to the issue, but he was very keen to help out Aussie fans.

Aussies fans who missed out on tickets are sharing their sorrows online, but there are also people remarking on the DJ’s soaring popularity.

“Selling out three nights in a row, in a few hours, at less than a week’s notice, is pretty wild,” one wrote.

“The only reason why it didn’t sell out in a flash is because it took people hours to get in,” another remarked.

Someone else pointed out that the Melbourne shows sold out within two hours, but they questioned whether bots were to blame

The famous British DJ is known for doing things in his own remarkable way and, while he might be a Millennial, he certainly knows how to communicate with Gen Zers.

More Coverage

Gibson talks directly with his fans via social media apps Discord, WhatsApp and Instagram, and fans are constantly trying to spot clues about when his next surprise gig will be.

He doesn’t waste time spending months trying to create hype so people buy tickets to his show.

Instead, he adds a sense of urgency to his touring, and Aussies are loving it.
