Bruce Springsteen returned to the stage on Tuesday night for the first time since he was diagnosed with peptic ulcer disease last year, but fans have been left baffled.
Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off their 2024 tour with a 29-song performance at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
It marked the band’s first performance since Springsteen was forced to postpone the remainder of the a 2023 tour while he recovered from surgery.
While fans were excited to see the legend back on-stage, many were left stunned by his appearance in pictures that emerged from the show.
Many compared the star to Hollywood legend Tilda Swinton in a series of confused tweets.
“That’s Tilda Swinton,” insisted one fan.
Other’s claimed the singer looks more like Megan Anna Rapinoe, a former professional soccer player, or Ellen DeGeneres.
Meanwhile, it’s been a tough year for the star. After having to take time off from his tour, Springsteen’s mother tragically passed last month.
He shared a heartwarming video of the pair dancing together to announce the news along with a poignant caption that included lyrics from his 1988 song, The Wish, which was written for her.
“I remember in the morning mum hearing your alarm clock ring,” he penned.
“I’d lie in bed and listen to you getting ready for work, the sound of your makeup case on the sink. And the ladies at the office all lipstick, perfume and rustling skirts, how proud and happy you always looked walking home from work.”
He continued, “It ain’t no phone call on Sunday, flowers or a Mother’s Day card. It ain’t no house on the hill with a garden and a nice little yard.
