2GB’s Ben Fordham extends lead in Sydney radio ratings - Sydney Morning Herald

After enduring a shock mid-year slump, 2GB host Ben Fordham appears to have steadied his breakfast ship. The AM broadcaster again extended his morning lead in Sydney’s latest radio ratings to score his best result to date.

Fordham’s audience rose one percentage point for a total audience share of 19.8 per cent, ahead of ABC Sydney’s Robbie Buck and Wendy Harmer (15.9 per cent; up 0.2 points) and KIIS 1065’s Kyle and Jackie O (10.7 per cent; down 0.1 points). 2GB is owned by Nine, the owner of this masthead.

Fordham’s win - his highest survey result since taking over the morning slot from Alan Jones in June 2020, and a sharp turnaround from the successive drops that saw him lose the breakfast lead to KIIS 1065’s Kyle and Jackie O in July - also gives 2GB its best result in breakfast in more than a decade. The station’s previous highest result in the time slot was Jones’ 20.3 per cent audience share in Survey 1 of 2010.

Fordham called it a “top result for 2GB and all of our presenters and producers”.

“We love doing what we do and we love knowing that people are listening,” he said. “We spend a lot of time advocating on behalf of our listeners and we appreciate their loyalty. I can promise you there’s no major celebrations happening today. We’ve got another show to deliver in the morning!“

The breakfast result echoes the overall audience picture with 2GB remaining Sydney’s number one station (15.7 per cent; down 0.7 points), ahead of ABC Sydney (12.3 per cent; down 0.7 points) and WSFM (8.1 per cent; up 0.5 points).

The result in drive stayed similarly unchanged from last survey, with ABC Sydney’s Richard Glover (12.2 per cent; down 0.6 points), leading Smooth FM 95.3’s Byron Webb (9.5 per cent; up 0.3 points) and KIIS 1065’s Will & Woody (8.2 per cent; up 0.8 points).

Tuesday’s ratings, the penultimate survey of the year, took in the periods August 15 to September 18 and September 26 to October 30.
