Adele reveals alcohol ban post-divorce - NEWS.com.au

Opening up to Oprah, Adele covered everything from her weight loss to her marriage breakdown. Here’s the best bits from her TV special.

Opening up to Oprah on a two-hour CBS special called Adele One Night Only, Adele covered everything from her weight loss, to her relationship with her son and her marriage breakdown with her ex-husband Simon Konecki.

The concert — which took place at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, California — was aired on November 14 ahead of the singer’s new album release for 30.

Australian fans will be able to watch the interview and concert on Channel 7 at 7pm on Sunday November 21.

However, if you can’t wait for the TV special, here were all the highlights from the revealing conversation.

How did the top-secret One Night Only concert unfold?

The 33-year-old easily dazzled while belting out her hits during a sunset set, with the Hollywood sign on display in the background but in attendance was also some of the city’s biggest celebrities.

Hundreds of lucky attendees, many of which were celebs, gathered on the grass to watch Adele sing alongside a live orchestra.

Along with Kris Jenner, 66, and Lizzo, 33, stars in attendance included Drake, Ellen DeGeneres, Nicole Richie, Tyler Perry, Aaron Paul, Seth Rogen, James Corden and Oprah’s best friend, Gayle King.

Jessie Tyler Ferguson, Dwyane Wade along with his wife, Gabrielle Union, and many more A-listers were also in attendance looking cheery as they sang along to Adele’s music.

It was also the first time her son, nine-year-old Angelo Adkins, watched her on stage.

Adele said it was the first time her little boy – who she shares with her ex-husband Simon Konecki – had never seen her perform live.

Is 30 her ‘divorce’ album?

When the singer was asked by Oprah Winfrey if her new album was “the divorce album,” Adele replied: “I think I’m divorcing myself in it.”

After explaining how “lonely” she had been, she added: “I’ve spent a lot of time on my own. I stopped drinking. That’s one great way to get to know yourself.”

When Oprah asked Adele how she “kept the faith” at her lowest point, the singer said: “It was just exhausting to keep going with it.

“The process of getting a divorce, being a single parent … so many people know what I’m talking about. I felt like not doing it anymore.”

“I’ve never questioned whether I made a bad decision,” she added.

Despite this, she did admit to feeling “embarrassed” she was unable to make her marriage work, adding that her now ex-husband came into her life for stability.

“He came in and was stable. The most stable person I had in my life until that point. Him and Angelo were angels sent to me.”

Adele on her tumultuous relationship with her dad:

When asked by Oprah what “deep wounds from the past” she was trying to heal, Adele responded with: “My dad’s absolute lack of presence.”

She admitted that as she got older she realised that “alcohol” was the reason behind that.

“When someone that you love so much … and the more they feel like they don’t love you, you love them even more,” she continued.

“I had absolutely zero expectations of anybody because I’ve been let down so many times.

Adele said during the CBS special: “During the last two, three years of my life my dad got really sick. … And not that long ago, back in April when my dad died and we had our peace together, I felt that huge gaping hole filled.

“We found our peace together and I played the album to him.”

Adele’s health journey ‘inspires’

Adele fans are “inspired” after she revealed the real reason for her 45kg weight-loss journey over the past year.

When the “Queen of daytime” brought up the topic of weight loss, Adele, admitted her health journey was “never” about “becoming skinny.”

She then addressed the critics who have commented on why she lost the weight, as Oprah mentioned some fans who previously related to her now feel “abandoned.”

The hit maker said: “I’m not shocked or phased by any of the (weight comments) because my body has been objectified my whole career.

“I was body positive then and I’m body positive now. It’s not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies.

“I feel bad that it’s made anyone feel horrible about themselves, but that’s not my job.”

The choice was also in part, due to the anxiety attacks she experienced after her marriage broke down.

“It was about my anxiety. I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage that paralysed me completely.

“It was like I was still very much there while my body was on another planet.”

The singer said that losing weight helped her clear her mind and give her a “real purpose.”

Adele and Meghan Markle’s unlikely friendship

Here’s a look at Meghan and Adele’s unlikely friendship, which most likely inspired the singer to sit down with Oprah during Adele: One Night Only, just like Meghan did.

Neighbours – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry escaped to a mansion lent to them by actor and director Tyler Perry, next to Perry’s was Adele and the three hit it off immediately.

Pilates Buddies – After they moved next door to each other, Meghan and Adele began to spend more time together – and that included getting fit together.

A source had previously told the Mirror: “Meghan and Adele have been having pilates lessons. They are loving it. The instructor has also been giving lessons to Harry. It’s a great stress-buster.”

Bonding over charity – Back in 2019, Adele, Meghan, and Prince Harry gave clues about their bond as they were photographed together at a community kitchen.

The images are believed to have been taken during a secret visit made by Meghan and Harry in 2018, with Adele also in attendance.

Fans ‘overwhelmed’ by ‘life changing’ interview

The British superstar is making her long-awaited comeback after six years of no new music with her upcoming album release, 30, which was celebrated yesterday on a star-studded CBS special.

While a fan added, “I’m amazed by everything I could watch. I laughed. I cried. and I felt, oh god how I felt … thank you for letting us get into your inner self, even for a moment it was life changing love you more and more.”

Another admirer tweeted: “In addressing backlash to losing weight, ‘Adele says ‘It’s not my job to validate how someone feels about their body.’

“And … yeah. 100 per cent. People project their insecurities on others, and that’s a powerful way for her — staunchly body positive — to put that in perspective.”

Someone else agreed, saying: “I’m so inspired by Adele right now. And how her I don’t give a F attitude toward people that have negative things to say about her weight loss. Yes girl!”
