Lacey Chabert, who starred in the hit movie Mean Girls, says her heart is “in a million pieces” after a sudden death within her family.

Mean Girls star Lacey Chabert has said she is “broken hearted” after the sudden death of her sister Wendy at 46.

The Sun reports the movie star announced the devastating news on Instagram this morning.

In a heartbreaking post, Chabert penned a letter to her late sister writing that “our hearts are shattered into a million pieces.”

Chabert, 38, shot to fame alongside Neve Campbell, Scott Wolf and Matthew Fox in the 90s TV show Party of Five.

She went on to play Gretchen Wieners in the teen comedy Mean Girls.

Chabert is now often seen in Hallmark movies, having appeared in dozens of films for the channel.

It appears that Wendy was living in Texas at the time of her passing.

She had two sons with a man named Shane Riggio, 45, however, it’s not known if they were still married at the time of her death. She worked as a baker at the grocery store chain.

Wendy and Lacey share another sister named Chrissy, 44, and a brother named T.J.

Chabert’s Instagram shows that she is very close to her siblings.

“Couldn’t let #nationalsistersday pass without saying how much I love my two sisters,” she gushed back in August. “They are the best big sisters ever and I thank God for them every day. Love you, Wendy and Crissy.”

The much-loved actress was sent well wishes from a number of her celebrity friends, including her Mean Girls co-star Daniel Franzese, who played Damian.

“Oh Lacey! so sorry. Praying for you and your family,” he wrote.

A number of fellow ‘90s child stars reached out to offer Chabert their condolences.

Former Full House star Candace Cameron Bure, wrote “Lacy, we are praying for you, your family and Wendy’s family. We love you, always here for you my sweet sweet friend.”

Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s Melissa Joan Hart wrote “I’m devastated and heartbroken! I am so sorry Lacey! Sending you so much love!”

Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years, wrote “Oh my goodness, Lacey. I love you so much and am sending prayers and love to you. I don’t know what I could possibly do but please call on me if I can do anything at all.”

Chabert married her longtime boyfriend David Nehdar in 2013.

They welcomed a daughter together, named Julia, in September 2016.

Last year, fans were delighted when the cast of Mean Girls reunited to recreate one of the movie’s most famous scenes.

Lindsay Lohan posted the clip to her 8.6 million followers as she and her fellow co-stars filmed their parts from their respective homes.
