A man who featured on Tiger King has died aged 58, marking the third death attached to the series.
Tiger King’s Jeff Johnson has died aged 58, with the death reportedly a suicide.
It is thought he had an argument with his wife just before he committed the act in their Oklahoma home, The Sun reports.
Johnson appeared in the fourth episode of the Netflix hit’s first season, which became a top-watched documentary series after it debuted early last year.
He appeared in one episode of Tiger King to provide background on the feud between Carole Baskin and the show’s lead star, Joe Exotic.
The reptile dealer became engaged in a feud with Exotic when the ‘Tiger King’ became affiliated with his now ex-friend, fellow big cat enthusiast Jeff Lowe.
Johnson campaigned online to claim both Exotic and Lowe were frauds. Johnson’s home was burnt down shortly after their feud escalated, but there wasn’t a reported connection.
It is the third death attached to the documentary series.
Exotic’s third husband, Travis Maldonado, 23, died accidentally while filming the documentary. He had a gun which he knew was loaded, but since there wasn’t a magazine in the gun, he believed it wouldn’t fire.
He died before first responders were able to arrive.
Another Tiger King contributor, Erik Cowie, also died on September 3. Police reported he died from chronic alcohol abuse.
TMZ first reported Johnson’s death, claiming he and his wife had an argument in their garage on September 8, during which Johnson fatally hurt himself.
Johnson reportedly still had a pulse when officers arrived on the scene. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
His wife reportedly told police Johnson did not suffer from mental illness and had never attempted suicide before.
It comes as season two of Tiger King dropped on Netflix on November 17, reuniting Lowe and Exotic after their falling out.
