The Bachelors Australia revealed its final choices in a nailbiting finale that brought with it lots of laughter and tears.
The three Bachelors, Wes Senna Cortes, Ben Waddell and Luke Bateman, made their respective decisions, and while some love was found, others were sadly left completely heartbroken.
Coming into the finale, country boy Luke was torn between two women, Ellie and Lana.
“I once told you that I’ve only ever felt this way towards someone twice in my life, I now realise that was a lie,” Luke said to Ellie, who stepped out of the limo first. “Ellie, I’ve never felt the way I do for you, for anyone else.”
Sadly, Luke didn’t end up proposing, but he did still gift Ellie with a ring … which he made clear was not an engagement ring.
This meant that Lana was left to have her heart broken, with Luke breaking the news to her after escorting her to the nearest damp park bench. He couldn’t even take her inside to let her down gently in the middle of winter? Ouch.
Up next it was Ben, who came into the finale with two women, McKenna and Angela.
Ben’s had a tough time on the show mostly due to Amelia, who would kindly be described as … spirited. However, since she was sent packing, Ben had a smoother ride and was able to form close bonds with both McKenna and Angela.
In the end, Ben decided to go with McKenna, even though Angela was convinced that her chemistry with the hunk meant she was The One.
Angela left the limo believing she’d been picked, but Ben quickly revealed the opposite, telling the reality star: “I love who you are, but I have to be true to myself and to you — my heart belongs somewhere else. I’m so sorry.”
Angela’s reaction was less than measured: “No disrespect to McKenna, but Ben made a huge mistake. Good luck, you’ll need it.”
“I did not see that coming... guys can we wrap up now,” she added before storming off. “F**k. I am so shocked.”
“I can’t wait to start a future with you, if you’ll have me,” Ben later told McKenna, to which she tearfully responded: “I’d love to.”
Last but not least was Wes.
Brazilian-born Wes had already told 25-year-old mining administrator Brea that he wanted their relationship to become exclusive.
However, it was up to Brea during the finale to decide if she felt enough of a connection to go ahead with him.
“We have so much going against us. We come from completely different worlds. Totally different ways of dating,” Wes said during the final rose ceremony. “And we live 2,400km apart.”
“I know I have so much to learn when it comes to relationships,” Wes said. “But if you are willing, I’d love for this relationship to be one that defies the odds. Brea, would you like to be my girlfriend?”
Despite his heartfelt words, Ben, who is a virgin and wants to wait to have sex until he’s married, was from too different a world for Brea, who has struggled to grapple with his beliefs from day one.
