Queen’s tragic ‘guilt’ days before death - news.com.au

It’s been revealed that the Queen was aware that she was dying, and had expressed guilt about the possibility of passing away in Balmoral.

A new documentary, set to air on the BBC on Boxing Day, showcases the first year of King Charles’ right, and shares insight into the Queen’s final days.

In the upcoming show, Princess Anne reveals that the Queen had expressed concern about her imminent passing because she wanted things to be as smooth as possible for her loved ones.

The Princess Royal, who remained close to the late Queen throughout her life, shared that the monarch was concerned about the logistics of dying outside of London and the hassle it could cause when it came to funeral arrangements.

“I think there was a moment when she felt that it would be more difficult if she died at Balmoral,” she said. “I think we did try to persuade her that shouldn’t be part of the decision-making process.’

Anne went on to share that she felt a sense of “relief” for the monarch after she eventually passed away and was laid to rest at St George’s Chapel after decades on the thrown.

“I rather weirdly felt a sense of relief – that’s it, finished,’ she said. ‘That responsibility being moved on.”

Anne also happened to be by the Queen’s bedside when she died, but revealed that it was solely by chance and not through planning. The royal had stopped over at Balmoral Castle after spending a few days on Scotland’s West Coast.

Elsewhere in the BBC doc, Princess Anne shares her thoughts on Queen Camilla, and says that she’s been “outstanding” in the way she’s embraced her new role and title alongside King Charles.

“I’ve known her a long time off and on,” continued Anne. “Her understanding of the role and how much difference it makes to the King has been absolutely outstanding. This role is not something that she’d be a natural for but she does it really well. She provides that change of speed and tone, that’s equally important.”

Anne also adds in the doc that it was tough for her brother, Charles to fully prepare himself for his ascension, despite having decades to prepare himself.

Queen Elizabeth died “peacefully” at Balmoral Castle in Scotland last September after Buckingham Palace revealed she was under medical supervision amid escalating concerns for her health. She was 96 years old.

Following her passing, King Charles paid tribute in a touching statement: “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held,” he added.
