Dominic West has revealed that Prince Harry seemingly ended their fledgling friendship after he “said too much” about the royal publicly.
West, who plays King Charles on The Crown, embarked on an expedition through Antarctia in 2014 and was joined by the Duke for the trek.
While the pair got on well during the trip, their friendship quickly fizzled after Prince Harry stopped talking to the actor.
While West doesn’t reveal exactly what went down, he’s admitted that he thinks he revealed too much about Harry and it likely made the Duke uncomfortable.
“We sort of [lost touch because] I said too much in a press conference, and so, we didn’t speak after that,” West said during an interview with Times Radio, when asked about his friendship with Harry.
“I think I was asked what we did. [And] what we did to celebrate when we got there and [I] probably said too much,” he continued.
West spoke openly about Harry during a press conference in 2014 following the expedition.
He said at the time that the royal was “very much part of the team.”
“He seemed to specialise in building latrines,” said the actor.
“He built this incredible castellated structure with blocks to keep out the wind and it even had a loo roll holder.”
Of using the toilet the prince built, the actor said: “Sitting there, looking at the beautiful view thinking ‘this is a royal flush, in every way.’”
Meanwhile, earlier this month, West revealed that he stopped his son, Senan West, from playing young Prince William in The Crown.
He told Radio Times that he prevented the 15-year-old from taking on the role because he was uncomfortable with the storyline for Season 6.

“I didn’t really fancy doing the scene at Balmoral [Castle], telling a boy his mother has died,” Dominic explained, adding that his son did a “great” job playing teenage William the previous season.
“They invited Senan back because he did such a good job, and he was great, but I did slightly baulk at that. It was unfair of me because he did want to do it, but I wouldn’t have fancied that, to be honest.”
It comes after Prince Harry previously confessed he’s watched the show and is “more comfortable” with how producers tell the story of his family in comparison to other projects that centre around the royals.
