James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan could reportedly face up to six months behind bars after allegedly walking into an off-limits area of a US national park.
The 007 actor was charged by U.S. District Court on Tuesday for allegedly hiking into banned zones of Yellowstone National Park.
He’s been cited for allegedly entering a thermal area at Mammoth Terraces, according to court documents obtained by The U.S. Sun.
Brosnan was charged with “foot travel in a thermal area” and a “closure violation” after he allegedly entered a restricted area of the iconic national park last month.
According to reports, the actor has yet to enter a plea in relation to the two charges, which the court has labelled as “petty offences”.
He will be expected to appear in court in Wyoming next month, on January 23.
Yellowstone National Park can be an incredibly dangerous place. As a result, there are designated areas where park-goers are allowed to walk and hike, while other areas are marked clearly as strictly off limits.
If found guilty, Brosnan could be sent to jail for up to six months and face a fine of up to $5,000, according to the Daily Mail.
The court takes the offences very seriously. Recently, a woman was reportedly held in jail for seven days and fined $2,000 after she chose to ignore the signs and opted to walk toward the highly dangerous thermal areas. She was also banned from the national park for two years as a result of her actions.
Yellowstone National Park is located mostly in the state of Wyoming but extends into parts of Montana and Idaho too.

Similarly, in 2016, the remains of a man who died in a hot spring accident in Yellowstone National Park were dissolved before they could be recovered.

After wandering into the danger zone, he fell in following an illegal attempt to soak in the park’s thermal pools. The horrifying accident was recorded by the his sister on her mobile phone. In the end, the only traces of the 23-year-old that remained where parts of his wallet and a metal necklace.
