Shane MacGowan, frontman of The Pogues, dies at age 65 - 9News

Shane MacGowan, the singer-songwriter and frontman of "Celtic Punk" band The Pogues, best known for the Christmas ballad Fairytale of New York, has died, his family says. He was 65.

The singer died peacefully with his family by his side, his wife Victoria Clarke, his sister Siobhan and father Maurice said in a statement.

"It is with the deepest sorrow and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our most beautiful, darling and dearly beloved Shane Macgowan," they said.

The musician had been hospitalised in Dublin for several months after being diagnosed with viral encephalitis in late 2022. He was discharged last week, ahead of his upcoming birthday on Christmas Day.

The Pogues fused Irish traditional music and rock 'n' roll into a unique, intoxicating blend, though MacGowan became as famous for his sozzled, slurred performances as for his powerful songwriting.

His songs blended the scabrous and the sentimental, ranging from carousing anthems to snapshots of life in the gutter to unexpectedly tender love songs.

The Pogues' most famous song, Fairytale of New York, is a bittersweet Christmas classic that opens with the decidedly unfestive words: "It was Christmas Eve, babe, in the drunk tank."

Born on Christmas Day 1957 in England to Irish parents, MacGowan spent his early years in rural Ireland before the family moved back to London.

Ireland remained the lifelong centre of his imagination and his yearning. He grew up steeped in Irish music absorbed from family and neighbours, along with the sounds of rock, Motown, reggae and jazz.

He attended the elite Westminster School in London, from which he was expelled, and spent time in a psychiatric hospital after a breakdown in his teens.

MacGowan embraced the punk scene that exploded in Britain in the mid-1970s.

He joined a band called the Nipple Erectors, performing under the name Shane O'Hooligan, before forming The Pogues alongside musicians including Jem Finer and Spider Stacey.

The Pogues — shortened from the original name Pogue Mahone, a rude Irish phrase — fused punk's furious energy with traditional Irish melodies and instruments including banjo, tin whistle and accordion.

"It never occurred to me that you could play Irish music to a rock audience," MacGowan recalled in A Drink with Shane MacGowan, a 2001 memoir co-authored with Clarke.

"Then it finally clicked. Start a London Irish band playing Irish music with a rock and roll beat. The original idea was just to rock up old ones but then I started writing," he said.

The band's first album, Red Roses for Me, was released in 1984 and featured raucous versions of Irish folk songs alongside originals including Boys from the County Hell, Dark Streets of London and Streams of Whisky.

MacGowan wrote many of the songs on the next two albums, Rum, Sodomy and the Lash (1985) and If I Should Fall from Grace with God (1988), ranging from rollicking rousers like the latter album's title track to ballads like A Pair of Brown Eyes and The Broad Majestic Shannon.

The band also released a 1986 EP, Poguetry in Motion, which contained two of MacGowan's finest songs, A Rainy Night in Soho and The Body of an American.

The latter featured prominently in early-2000s TV series The Wire, sung at the wakes of Baltimore police officers.

"I wanted to make pure music that could be from any time, to make time irrelevant, to make generations and decades irrelevant," he recalled in his memoir.

The Pogues were briefly on top of the world, with sold-out tours and appearances on US television, but the band's output and appearances grew more erratic, due in part to MacGowan's struggles with alcohol and drugs. He was fired by the other band members in 1991.

He performed with a new band, Shane MacGowan and the Popes, before reuniting with The Pogues in 2001 for a series of concerts and tours.

MacGowan had years of health problems and used a wheelchair after breaking his pelvis a decade ago. He was long famous for his broken, rotten teeth until receiving a full set of implants in 2015 from a dental surgeon who described the procedure as "the Everest of dentistry".

MacGowan received a lifetime achievement award from Irish President Michael D Higgins on his 60th birthday.

The occasion was marked with a celebratory concert at the National Concert Hall in Dublin with performers including Bono, Nick Cave, Sinead O'Connor and Johnny Depp.

‘No way’: Star shocks fans with Sydney pics - news.com.au

The Kid Laroi, aka Charlton Howard, has outed himself as being smack bang in the middle of Sydney’s busy CBD.

Laroi, 20, posted a TikTok of himself hanging outside Sydney’s flagship David Jones and it is a pretty bold move from such a famous face. Usually, celebrities like to keep their location on the down-low but not Laroi.

“Guess where I am?” He teased.

It is that time of year when everyone finds themselves trekking around shopping centres to do their local Christmas shopping, and they may have found themselves mingling with the rich and famous thanks to the star’s presence.

Laroi was looking low-key in a beanie and oversized shirt because all the cool young people now wear oversized everything.

He was also spotted dining at the iconic Sydney Italian restaurant Matteo.

His presence in Sydney soon made a whole lot more sense because he turned up at Post Malone’s Sydney show as a special guest, and the two performed the song Bleed.

Fans were pretty delighted by his appearance, with Laroi’s TikTok now flooded with fans thanking him for showing up or sharing their pain if they missed out.

“I wish I was there,” someone wrote.

“You were great,” another praised.

“No way,” one remarked.

Laroi is one of Australia’s biggest Gen Z success stories. He grew up in Sydney’s Waterloo before taking over the world as a teenager with his smash hit Without You, and has since released bangers like Stay and Thousand Miles.

He dropped his first album, appropriately titled The First Time, last week, which he claimed had been over two years in the making.

Laroi recently opened up to Billboard about the weird reality of becoming famous as a child.

“For me, I think I look at it as a big blessing. It’s also a bit of a curse. I signed my record deal with Columbia when I was 15 … at 15, you don’t know anything,” he said.

He went on to emphasise that while he was only a kid when he first became famous, it has only really hit him now.

“You’re like a literal child, even if you don’t understand that at the time. I’m about to be 20 this year, and I f**king look back at 15, and I feel like I was a literal child and a baby.”

Former Neighbours star Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s heartbreaking plea after debut of partner Pip Loth - PerthNow

It’s been just over a week since former Neighbours star Natalie Bassingthwaighte debuted her new partner Pip Loth but her happiness has quickly turned to heartbreak.

In a video posted to Instagram (watch above) the Rogue Traders frontwoman posted a plea for peace after being attacked by vicious trolls over her new love.

Bassingthwaighte began by thanking fans for the love and support she’d received before revealing that: “on the flip side with love comes hate”.

“And I’m not a hater. I’ve never been a hater. I don’t understand it. I don’t understand how people have time to go on peoples’ pages and comment so viciously and horrifically and intentionally make people feel awful.

“It’s not accepted on my page and I won’t have it.”

Bassingthwaighte revealed that her team will be blocking anyone who writes negative comments on her posts.

“They’ll be blocking anyone who says anything negative towards anyone that I love, and that includes my family, that includes Cam, that includes my kids and that includes my girlfriend,” she said.

“Be kind. You don’t know what people are going through, you really don’t, and it’s a dangerous slippery slope.

Hate just brings more hate. And I don’t have any hate in my life. I don’t, I’m happy, I’m safe and well and I wish you nothing but the same.

Bassingthwaighte’s followers quickly filled the comments with messages of support.

“I’m so happy to hear you are getting rid of all the negativity. I don’t get it either. I guess happy people don’t do that to others. These trolls have sad, miserable lives. I support you 100%,” Today Show correspondent Megan Castran wrote.

“LOVE you Nat. We all have your back. ❤️❤️❤️,” actress Rebecca Gibney wrote.

“Oh Nat. Yes. All of this,” Morning Show host Kylie Gillies wrote.

Reports that Bassingthwaighte had separated from her husband of 12 years Cameron McGlinchey began circulating in August before she went Instagram official with Loth.

Loth is a stage manager at the Queensland Theatre Company who has worked in theatre and live productions for close to a decade.

Just two days ago they wrote in an Instagram post: “Appreciation post for the most incredible woman who is not only giving me strength, support, love and immense joy, but is teaching me to understand and accept that I am deserving of these things and have them within myself too.

“She’s teaching me to breathe deeply, to trust and to be my truest self. I am so incredibly lucky and overwhelmingly grateful for you @natbassingthwaighte. 🌈❤️‍🔥”

Bassingthwaighte has previously said she was terrified about coming out in a same-sex relationship.

In an interview with Stellar magazine, Bassingthwaighte said the public interest in her relationship “was terrifying from the get-go.”

“Since it first happened, I was waiting for someone to say something. And it just felt like I wasn’t ready,” she said.

“The hardest part was getting a phone call to say, the media know … they want a comment. I felt very overwhelmed.”

Fred Durst, Limp Bizkit rock Sydney, leaving fans hungry for more - news.com.au

American nu-metal pioneers Limp Bizkit took Sydney by storm with a powerhouse performance at the iconic Hordern Pavilion on Thursday night as part of their Australian tour for the Good Things festival.

The rockers, known for hits like Rollin’ and Nookie, left fans hungry for more with their signature high-energy show.

During the electrifying performance, a fan threw a pair of women’s underwear onto the stage, which lead singer Fred Durst promptly wrapped around his microphone – with Careless Whispers by George Michael playing in the background – adding a playful touch to the rock spectacle where he asked those in attendance to slow dance together.

“We’re making friends out here, it’s all love in Sydney,” said Durst.

Despite the comical display, many were shocked, not by the underwear, but by how much Durst has changed.

Known for his ever-changing appearance, the frontman surprised the audience with another new look, sporting a mop of curly hair in stark contrast to his familiar 90s/2000s style.

Having only performed in Australia on a few occasions, Limp Bizkit made sure to give metalheads from the late ‘90s and early 2000s a night to remember.

The Hordern Pavilion witnessed a mosh pit frenzy, with Durst and the band tearing through a set list featuring classics like My Generation, Take a Look Around and My Way.

Adding to the excitement, Limp Bizkit treated fans to three dynamic cover songs.

The first was a cover of Thieves by Ministry, with the second being a surprisingly heavy rendition of George Michael’s Faith.

But fans were truly blown away during their cover of Rage Against the Machine’s Killing in the Name, just before the concert reached its pinnacle, with the band closing the show with their most iconic track, Break Stuff.

Also performing on Thursday night, rock superstars the Foo Fighters kicked off the Australian leg of their world tour to get the ball rolling on 2023’s massive summer of world-class musicians hitting Australian stages.

The Fooies are just the first in line across a summer that will also see Taylor Swift, Blink 182, Pink and Matchbox 20, among others perform.

Limp Bizkit has one side show remaining in Melbourne.

Sydney Theatre Company ‘deeply sorry’ after pro-Palestinian protest on stage - The Guardian

The Sydney Theatre Company has issued an apology after the resignation of one of its longstanding foundation board members over an on-stage pro-Palestinian protest by three of its actors.

Judi Hausmann, founder and chair of Sydney public relations company the Haus, announced her resignation from the STC’s fundraising arm, the foundation board, on Tuesday after a 15-year tenure.

The resignation came three days after the opening night of the STC’s production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre. During the curtain call, three cast members draped themselves in traditional keffiyeh headdresses to signal support for Palestinians in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

One of the protesting actors, Harry Greenwood, is the son of actor Hugo Weaving, who also sits on the STC’s foundation board.

In a letter to STC’s acting board chairperson, Ann Johnson, the chair of the foundation, Gretel Packer, and the company’s director of private support, Danielle Heidbrink, obtained by the Australian, Hausmann referred to a request she made to STC management for a “one-night pause” of the production, to give the company time to draft a “resolution that would be acceptable to all parties”.

The Monday evening performance of The Seagull went ahead as scheduled, with STC management issuing a statement the same day saying the company had not been aware of the protest prior to it happening and apologising for “any distress caused”.

“What hurts most is that I love the STC and all of the people I’ve worked alongside, especially the three of you,” Hausmann wrote in her resignation letter, according to the Australian.

Hausmann declined to talk to Guardian Australia on Wednesday, saying she was postponing all media interviews to recuperate after three sleepless nights.

“I never imagined my resignation would be necessary because I’m a Jew,” she reportedly wrote in her resignation letter to the STC boards.

Late on Wednesday, STC said in a statement that the company acknowledged that “the actions at the curtain call and our immediate response” had “hurt many in our community”.

“For this, we are deeply sorry.”

The statement said while the company supported individual freedom of expression it also believed that the right to free speech “does not supersede our responsibility to create safe workplaces and theatres”.

The company said it was still working to address the concerns raised over the protest, but did not address Hausmann’s resignation directly.

“Theatre is a place for exploring ideas with complexity and context,” the statement said.

“We recognise that artists bring their whole selves to our stages and in doing so, they bring a rich diversity of views and lived experience. We also recognise that when our audiences attend a production, they come to experience the content in that play and that play only, and that any exception to this needs to be done in consultation with the company and consideration of our duty of care.”

Guardian Australia has sought comment from artist management company Shanahan, which represents Greenwood. Comment has also been sought from agents representing the other two actors who took part in the protest, Megan Wilding and Mabel Li.

The cast of The Seagull at STC

The protest has provoked both criticism and support on social media.

The Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance’s acting chief executive, Adam Portelli, said in a statement: “MEAA respects the right of performers to freedom of opinion and expression, a right afforded to all Australians. As a union we will support all members should they face disciplinary action for simply exercising that right.”

The Seagull cast members’ protest is the latest action by artists and entertainers weighing in on the Israel-Hamas war. Collecting his album of the year award at the 2023 Aria music awards on 15 November, rapper Genesis Owusu called for a ceasefire in Gaza during his acceptance speech.

On Sunday, singer songwriter Deborah Conway wore a Star of David pendant and colours of the Israeli flag while performing at Mushroom Records’ 50th anniversary concert at Mebourne’s Rod Laver Arena. According to Channel 7, more than 800,000 watched the broadcast on the network.

Conway subsequently posted a photo and a lengthy statement on Facebook, saying: “We wore what we wore as an act of solidarity, of defiance, of kinship.”

Weather sparks chaos at huge Sydney show - news.com.au

Post Malone’s concert in Sydney has been thrown into chaos following extreme weather on Wednesday evening.

The Grammy Award winning star is currently in Australia for three headline shows under the stars in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

Doors were scheduled to open for the concert at The Domain from 6pm on Wednesday, with

Malone is scheduled to take to the stage at 8.40pm.

However, due to the current extreme weather in Sydney, Live Nation has taken to Twitter and urged concertgoers to “seek shelter” until further notice and to avoid the venue.

The company said in a tweet: “Due to approaching storm please move immediately & seek shelter in the City precinct. Please delay your arrival at Post Malone until weather has passed. This is a temporary measure, we will advise further updates as they become available.”

Fans have been inundating Twitter with pictures of videos of the current weather situation, with many demanding updates as to whether the concert will even be able to go ahead.

One tweeted: “HELP??? THIS IS THE WEATHER RIGHT NOW IN SYDNEY!!! GIVE US AN UPDATE ABOUT POST MALONE’S CONCERT TONIGHT”.

Others have urged organisers to cancel the show, tweeting: “The concert cannot seriously be going on in this thunderstorm. Do the right thing and cancel it. I doubt the insurers will pay out for all the injuries that can occur in this weather!”

A third said: “Man idk about post malone’s concert in the open during this wack rainy weather,” while another added: “When will we know if Post Malone is cancelled for tonight? there’s a severe weather warning in place?”

Malone recently kicked off his tour in Brisbane, where he entertained fans with a surprising on-stage act.

The singer, 28, did a “shoey” no less than seven times during his concert, telling the crowd he was aiming for some sort of record as he repeatedly stopped the show to skol beer from a shoe.

Post took to the stage clutching a red cup with his drink of choice – an “ice cold brewski” – but drunk from a shoe instead. The Courier Mail reported that by the time he got to his seventh shoey, well into the show, he’d brought an audience member named Dennis on stage to join him.

The “shoey” has become a love-it-or-hate-it tradition among visiting international touring acts in recent years, with big names like Harry Styles and Lizzo attempting the gross custom onstage while egged on by local fans.

The Crown reveals infamous bikini dress - news.com.au

Netflix has unveiled the first glimpse of Kate Middleton’s infamous see-through dress fashion show moment.

The final part of The Crown is set to air next month, and will bring to an end one of Netflix’s most successful shows to date.

The streaming giant took to Twitter to five fans a first glimpse, captioning the snaps: “A first look at the epic conclusion. The Crown Part 2 debuts on the 14th of December.”

Middleton rocked the sheer gown during a 2002 charity fashion show at the University of St. Andrews, and now the moment has been recreated as part of the final series of The Crown.

The Princess was a first-year art history major at University of St. Andrews in 2002 when she volunteered to walk in a campus charity fashion show dubbed “The Art of Seduction.”

William, who was also a student at the university, happened to be sitting in the audience, and the rest is history.

They began dating a year later, and have gone on to become two of the UK’s most beloved royals.

The designer, Charlotte Todd, previously shared it wasn’t her decision to put Middleton in such a revealing dress.

“I don’t know if Kate chose to wear this dress or if someone put her in the dress,” she told CNN.

“So, I don’t know if it was her intention to be there in her underwear in front of the prince.”

Real Housewives of Sydney star Caroline Gaultier shares update on mum after cancer diagnosis | news.com.au — Australia's leading news site - news.com.au

Reality TV star Caroline Gaultier has shared an update on her mother, who was recently diagnosed with cancer while Caroline was filming the show.

The reality star was told the devastating news as cameras rolled on the BINGE series, with the star breaking down in tears in front of the cameras.

In her second appearance this season on Joel Creasey’s the RHOS official podcast on Nova Entertainment, Caroline said she had the choice whether she wanted those scenes to air or to leave the moment private.

“I had a choice if I wanted to make it public or not,” she told Creasey. “It was 100 per cent my choice. So I spoke to my Mum and she said, ‘Listen I was born in show business, I will die in show business.’”

Caroline’s mum was a famous actress and journalist in Prague and is more headstrong than the feisty former model. Aged in her 70s, she says she’s had a good run and wants to spend her final years living her life, not undergoing treatment.

Caroline respects her mum’s wishes, but it’s still hard at the thought of her mum passing.

“Sometimes I’m OK to talk about it, but I don’t want to ruin my make up,” she said on the podcast.

“It comes in waves. It’s a whole thing. I wasn’t OK for two years after my dog passed, so I really don’t know how it’s going to go down. It’s a whole new experience for me. I’m trying. Sometimes to pull it off, sometimes I don’t.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Caroline couldn’t help but criticise her castmates’ inability to move on from drama.

“Who’s got the time? Say what you need to say, hear the other person’s perspecitve, have a little think, and then say sorry or make up or whatever and let’s move on,” she said.

“I think we have a little bit of an issue with moving on.”

This week, RHOS castmate Terry Biviano organised a trip for the girls to Tokyo to help take Caroline’s mind off her mother. But the girls getaway quickly turned sour when Terry and Krissy Marsh got into a confrontation while at sake tasting.

Essentially, Krissy thinks Terry is constantly siding with castmate Dr Kate Adams, even if Terry has been friends with Krissy for longer.

“I think Krissy was under the assumption they were BFFs,” Caroline said. “I think Terry’s perception of their friendship is different and that’s what the fight was about.”

Caroline was there with the duo as the tension broke out, but she kept out of it and continued to drink her sake and gin – all two bottles of it.

“This particular argument refers to their friendship that I’m not privy too prior. So I cannot comment on it because I don’t know what their friendship was at outside the show for 15 years,” she said.

“As much as I can comment on what’s happening in front of me, I think most of the girls, other than Kate and myself, have history of friendships. So I feel like something can seep into the current friendships, or if they have any vendettas, or if there have been any issues which I don’t know about and I’ve never asked, so I can’t comment.”

Caroline did say that she thinks the drama between her castmates is “cute” as it’s not a matter of life and death.

“The problems are cute. They’re not heartbreaking scenarios they’re fighting over: ‘Are you my real friend? Are you not my real friend? I can’t believe you said this too me …’” she mocked.

“It’s cute. It’s not really that [bad] – did you die? No one’s dead … it’s a level I can tolerate.”

Joel Creasey’s Nova Entertainment The Real Housewives of Sydney podcast airs every Tuesday following new episodes of RHOS on BINGE.

90s music legends drop big Aussie news - news.com.au

TLC fans will be digging on this news: the iconic R&B girl group are touring Australia in 2024.

This morning, Live Nation Australia announced the American duo will visit our shores on a five-city tour to coincide with the 30th anniversary of their smash-hit second album CrazySexyCool.

Along with supporting acts and fellow 90s legends Busta Rhymes and En Vogue, duo Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas will kick off their tour in Melbourne on March 2 before hitting Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth in early March next year.

“I’m so excited to return to Australia! This is the album that put us on the map with Aussie fans and showed the world who we really are,” Chili said in a statement.

“And to mark 30 years, this will be quite the celebration!”

CrazySexyCool sold more than 85 million records worldwide and reached the Top 5 on Aussie charts, where it remained in the top 100 for 76 weeks.

The album featured number-one tracks Waterfalls, Creep, No Scrubs and Unpretty, as well as catchy singles Diggin’ On You,Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg and Red Light Special.

To date, TLC remains the best-selling US girl group of all time with four Grammy Awards and four multi-platinum albums, two of which went Diamond.

The Atlanta-based group was rocked by tragedy in 2022 when they lost bandmate Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in a fatal car accident just weeks before her 31st birthday.

The accident took place while Lopes was filming a documentary in Honduras, which was later released as The Last Days of Left Eye in 2007.

While promoting their two-hour documentary Biography: TLC last year, T-Boz touched on Left Eye’s death and how they coped with the tragedy.

“We didn’t want people coming up, saying, ‘Oh, I’m so sorry,’” T-Boz told Us Weekly at the time. “And I know that they meant well, but when you’re in pain, you just don’t wanna hear any of that.”

“It took me a long time to refer to her in the past [tense], because I couldn’t believe it. And I think it has so much to do with, when you’re young like that, you think you’re invincible.”

TLC Australian Tour Dates 2024:

William disliked ‘opinionated’ Meghan - news.com.au

Prince William had a problem with “opinionated” Meghan Markle from the very start of her romance with Harry, claims a new royal book.

Omid Scobie’s highly-anticipated and controversial book Endgame was released this week, and numerous claims within its pages have already left royal followers shocked.

According to Scobie, Markle’s arrival into the family was a “jolt to the system” and immediately left William “concerned that he [Harry] was moving too fast with someone who had lived a life so far removed from that of his brother.”

It seems Markle had an uphill battle from the get-go with the family, but especially William, with Scobie claiming that Will believed that their different “upbringings” and “nationalities” made her an “outsider”.

“[Their romance came] at the expense of the family image,” said Scobie “It was felt that Harry was rushing into something that had serious blowback potential.”

Things then came to a head when Harry allegedly accused William of not making Markle feel welcome.

Scobie said that leaks soon began to emerge from the Palace that claimed William “truly didn’t like Meghan”, and that he had told aides and family members that he believed her to be too “opinionated”.

As a result of Harry’s siding with Markle, “William shifted away from acting like a brother and became more like someone only focused [on the Crown]”.

As Harry and Markle’s romance became more intense, so did the rumours surrounding the brothers.

Sadly, things between the pair have gone from bad to worse in the years since Markle first entered the inner-circle.

It’s widely understood that William has no intention of speaking to his brother for the foreseeable future, with members of his inner circle indicating there may be no way back for their relationship.

In the new book, Scobie also opened up about his own personal experience with William, describing how he’d noticed a huge shift in his demeanour over the years.

“William was always someone that brought kind of a ray of sunshine to royal engagements, he was happy, he was always willing to have a bit of banter with you, he was interested in the people around him,” the author recalled.

“And the man I see before me today is, of course, taking the job more seriously … But there’s a harder, almost more worn-down demeanour to William as well.”

Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, published by HarperCollins, is now available as an ebook, with hard copies in Australian stores from tomorrow.

27yo popstar spotted looking unrecognisable - news.com.au

Kiwi singer Lorde has been spotted looking unrecognisable in fresh photos while wandering around New York City.

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, became famous when she was just a teenager.

She was known for her signature curly brunette hair with a style verging on gothic.

Now, she’s been spotted rocking blonde pigtails and going for a much more casual and sunny look.

The singer, 27, wore oversized headphones, a moss green jacket and a little cap. She looked like any other twenty-something, not the hugely famous star she is.

Fans were quick to weigh in on her low-key look.

“Casual human on the streets of New York,” someone commented.

“I would walk past her without knowing,” another confessed.

“I thought this was Dakota Fanning,” one shared.

This isn’t the first time the pop singer has been spotted living a very normal life. In October, a fan spotted her on the subway.

Lorde was pictured sitting by herself, looking casual and wearing jeans and a T-shirt paired with oversized headphones. She was also carrying a canvas tote bag that every woman in her 20s owns a version of.

The star didn’t seem upset about being spotted because she happily snapped a selfie with a fan, who shared it proudly on social media.

Lorde’s clearly been living a pretty low-key existence since her last album, Solar Power, came out in 2021.

While the album still peaked at number five on the Billboard charts, it didn’t quite reach the successful heights of her sophomore album Melodrama, which snagged a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, or her debut album Pure Heroine, which launched her career.

In a newsletter penned in 2022, Lorde reflected on the mixed reception to her third album, saying it led to some huge ups and downs as the response was “painful” to sit with at times.

Since then, she’s been pretty private, but she did open up to fans in September to share she was experiencing heartbreak again.

In a note titled ‘How I’ve been, revised’ she told her subscriber fan base she was going through a time of growth.

“I’m different but the same. I ache all the time, I forget why and then remember,” she explained.

“I’m not trying to hide from the pain, and I understand now that pain isn’t something to hide from, that there’s actually great beauty in moving with it. But sometimes, I’m sick of being with myself.”

The note sparked a theory she may have ended things with music executive Justin Warren.

Lorde has never spoken about their relationship, but they have been linked since early 2015 and spotted together consistently.

Not much is known about their relationship apart from the significant seventeen-year age gap. Warren is 44 and Lorde is 27.

Nicolas Cage drops surprising career news - news.com.au

Nicolas Cage revealed how he plans to spend his time now that he is nearly 60 years old.

Cage, who turns 60 on January 7, has spent the last few years starring in a handful of movies, including The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, The Old Way, Renfield and more recently, Dream Scenario.

However, fans should not expect to see as much work from Cage moving forward as he focuses on “what’s important”, reports Fox News.

“Sixty is coming up. I’d like to read a book a week, I wanna spend more time with my daughter,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m taking more stock of what’s important.”

“Maybe not make quite as many movies.”

Cage and his wife Riko Shibata welcomed their first child together in 2022, a baby girl named August Francesca Coppola Cage. The actor is also a father to his adult sons, Weston and Kal-El, from previous relationships.

Cage largely stepped back from the Hollywood industry years ago and has spent his time starring in more indie films. Long gone are the days when fans could catch Cage in a movie such as Ghost Rider or Con Air.

In 2016, Cage starred in the independent film Pig, which followed a previously famous chef named Rob who left his celebrity behind to live off the grid.

“I do feel that I’ve gone into my own wilderness and that I’ve left the small town that is Hollywood,” Cage told Variety at the time. “I don’t know exactly why Rob left his stardom. It’s never fully explained, and I like that about the movie. But as for me, I don’t know if I’d want to go back. I don’t know if I’d want to go and make another Disney movie. It would be terrifying. It’s a whole different climate. There’s a lot of fear there.”

For Cage, there’s “more freedom” in shooting an indie film.

“When I was making Jerry Bruckheimer movies back-to-back, that was just a high-pressure game. There were a lot of fun moments, but at the same time, there was also, ‘We wrote this line. It has to be said this way,’” Cage recalled.

“They’d put a camera on you and photograph you, and order you: ‘Now say the rollerskate training wheels line.’ I’d say, ‘I’ll do that but I’d also like to try it this way.’”

“On independent movies, you have more freedom to experiment and be fluid. There’s less pressure and there’s more oxygen in the room.”
