A production insider who works on The Voice has spilled some behind the scenes secrets about tonight’s grand finale, including that they filmed several different endings.
The grand finale, which airs tonight at 7pm on Channel 9, was prerecorded a few weeks ago.
But because the public will determine who wins via live voting (which closes after all four artists have performed in tonight’s episode), the show was forced to film four different winner announcements.
As the production insider told news.com.au, the votes will quickly be tallied during tonight’s episode and then the correct winner’s announcement will be aired.
This meant that the remaining four finalists each had to record one version of the announcement where they won the show and three versions where they lost.
Speaking to news.com.au, finalist Chris Sebastian said it was “definitely awkward” to film the different versions.
“You’ve got to understand, by that point of the day we were so tired,” Chris said. “We hadn’t had a day off for two weeks and we were physically drained.
“I think some people acted better than others. I definitely tried to exaggerate as much as I could because I wanted it to be like how it would be like if I actually did win.
“It’ll be interesting to see who wins and which one they play.”
Chris told news.com.au they only had one shot at recording each of the winner’s announcements.
“Obviously they do the confetti, the sparklers up the back, it’s quite a spectacle and we had to go through that four times,” he laughed.
“It was definitely awkward … it was a test of everyone’s acting abilities.”
The production insider explained to news.com.au that The Voice wasn’t able to have a live finale because coaches Kelly Rowland and Boy George are both currently overseas and unable to enter Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The insider said with the increased logistics required to produce the show from three different locations, and more time required in production due to reduced crew numbers thanks to COVID-19 restrictions, the finale was unable to be filmed live.
The four artists battling it out in tonight’s grand finale are Chris Sebastian, Siala Robson, Stellar Perry and Johnny Manuel.
The winner gets a recording contract with EMI Music and $100,000 in prizemoney. You can vote for your favourite here.
