Despite the odds, the 2020 Emmy awards are going ahead, coronavirus pandemic withstanding, with former SNL comedian Leslie Jones announcing the nominations via a live streamed virtual ceremony on Tuesday.
Popular Canadian comedy Schitt's Creek dominated the comedy categories with 15 nominations for its final season, while the HBO-produced Watchmen received a leading 26 nominations.
A host of Australians were also nominated with big names Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett and Toni Collette all up for awards in the limited series or movie categories.
Jackman is up against fellow big-name actors Jeremy Irons and Mark Ruffalo for Best Actor in a limited series for Bad Education, while Blanchett received her first Emmy nomination as Best Lead Actress in a limited TV series or movie category for Mrs America.
Collette also features in the limited series or movie category and is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the Netflix-produced Unbelievable, while Australian Sarah Snook has a chance to take home the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in HBO's Succession.
Main category winners will be announced on Monday, September 21, Australian time, with late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel at the helm.
