In what will thrill fans of the drama series, the renewal was announced by Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming.
News of its renewal comes only weeks after Perry Mason hit streaming on Foxtel, with the show currently the programmer’s number one new series for 2020.
The 1932-set prequel series stars Emmy award winner Matthew Rhys as the titular low-rent private investigator who is struggling to survive in Depression-era America and is haunted by his wartime experiences in France and suffering the effects of a broken marriage.

Perry Mason also stars John Lithgow as Elias Birchard “E.B.” Jonathan, a struggling lawyer and a semi-regular employer of Mason, Juliet Rylance as Della Street, E.B. Jonathan’s creative and driven legal secretary, Tatiana Maslany as Sister Alice McKeegan, the leader of the Radiant Assembly of God, Shea Whigham as Pete Strickland, who is hired by Mason as an extra set of eyes on his various investigations, and Chris Chalk as Paul Drake, a police contact for Mason.
“It has been an exciting journey to work with the immensely talented team behind Perry Mason,” Ms Orsi said.
“Viewers have relished being transported back in time to 1930s Los Angeles each week, and we are thrilled to welcome the show back for a second season.”
Perry Mason hails from Team Downey – the production company owned by Robert Downey Jr and his wife Susan Downey.

Of course, this isn’t the first Perry Mason TV series.
The late Raymond Burr was a multi-Emmy award nominee as the unflappable defence lawyer in the 1957 mystery, which ran for nine seasons.
But Rhys told news.com.au not to expect HBO’s take to be the same.
“What drew me to this character was that it was the redefining of an iconic character,” Rhys said.
“Mason, to me, is an incredibly flawed character and that makes him an infinitely more human character.
“My hope is people will relate to him and feel he’s accessible because when I watch superheroes or perfect people, I find it hard to relate to them or find a way in. What I liked about his flaws is that they’re very justified.
“You can see how the cracks have opened in him and the key moments in his life have affected him and are affecting him.
“The journey is going to be pretty big and interesting. Mason starts out as one thing on this very traumatising case and then ends up something completely different, something he didn’t think he was capable of or wanted to do. But he always has this incredible sense of justice.”
