Meghan Markle’s Wikipedia page edited before Prince Harry reveal - NEWS.com.au

Meghan Markle’s Wikipedia entry underwent a dramatic alteration right before her relationship with Prince Harry was exposed, it’s been revealed.

According to the UK’s Telegraph, the former Suits star’s page saw a flurry of activity on October 9, 2016, just three weeks before the press got wind of the royal romance.

A reference to her work as a model on the US version of TV game show Deal or No Deal was deleted from Wikipedia late that night, while a separate edit made 10 minutes later saw her occupation changed from “actress, fashion model and spokesmodel” to “actress, activist, humanitarian”.

Just before 11pm, a new section was then added under the heading “Humanitarian work” which included details of her visit to Rwanda for a water charity, her work with the United Nations and a visit to Afghanistan in 2014.

It also added that Meghan was “founder of the TIG” – her now-defunct lifestyle blog.

Her relationship with Prince Harry was revealed in late October 2016, which saw her thrust suddenly into the global spotlight.

An investigation by The Telegraph revealed the same anonymous user made all the changes to Meghan’s Wikipedia page – and an internet database search linked the IP address to a Los Angeles-based public relations company.

There is no evidence the company ever represented Meghan.

The tumultuous past few years of Harry and Meghan’s life together has been dominating headlines again recently, thanks to the upcoming release of Finding Freedom: Harry And Meghan And The Making Of A Modern Royal Family, a book promising to go “beyond the headlines … dispelling the many rumours and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond”.

The Times and the Sunday Times newspapers in the UK have already begun running a selection of extracts in the lead-up to its August 11 publication.

It’s been widely reported the royal couple gave their blessing for the biography, despite not giving direct interviews.

Already, we’ve learned more about the conversation between Princes William and Harry that sparked their devastating rift, the “secret proposal” which happened two months before Harry and Meghan announced their engagement, and the Sussexes’ jealousy over William and Kate’s role in the royal pecking order.

While a spokesman for Harry and Meghan said the pair did not contribute to Finding Freedom, he did not deny the content of the extracts that have appeared in The Times.

The spokesman said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom.

“This book is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting.”
