Heather Locklear says James Naughton behaved inappropriately on First Wives Club - NEWS.com.au

Heather Locklear is opening up about the #MeToo moment that prompted her to remove her name from the credits of The First Wives Club.

On a new episode of Zach Braff and Donald Faison’s Fake Doctors, Real Friends podcast, Locklear claimed that she was groped by co-star James Naughton, who allegedly grabbed her breast and “outline(d) her areola” during a scene.

“We were in a funeral,” said the actress of the scene in question. “We were on the benches of the church.”

Locklear’s claim came during a wide-ranging interview with Scrubs alums Braff and Faison about her decades-long career. While the Melrose Place star has had many roles, she revealed that she actually requested to go uncredited on 1996 comedy The First Wives Club after she had a “gross” encounter with a co-star.

“There was a couple of scenes that they cut out of me, and then the only scene that I had had no lines,” she said. “One of the actors, we were at a funeral, and he was supposed to take his hand and touch my breast, and they show that.”

However, Locklear said that Naughton “actually touched more” than was originally in the script. “It was agh – gross,” she recalled of the encounter. “So I said: Can you just take my name off the credits since now I don’t have any lines? So it was creditless.”

Decider reached out to James Naughton’s representatives for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

The actress was referencing a scene in which Naughton, playing her on-screen husband, touches her breast while attending a church funeral. The moment serves as one of the only times Locklear’s character crosses paths with the main trio of Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, and Bette Midler, but Locklear told Braff and Faison that the experience was anything but positive.

“So, wait, you’re in The First Wives Club but the only thing that happens is a man grabs your breast?” asked Braff.

“He doesn’t grab it,” replied Locklear. “He actually outlines my areola with his finger. It didn’t say that in the script. I was like (gasps). I’m so glad they’re following his hand down because my face, my mouth is fallen open and I can’t believe it and don’t do it again. One take and let’s go.”

“There was more to the part (than being groped). I had filmed the bigger, bigger scenes,” continued Locklear. “They just thought, I don’t know, maybe I was bad in it.”
