Actor Bryan Cranston reveals he had coronavirus, urges people to wear masks - ABC News

American actor Bryan Cranston has revealed he had COVID-19 and is pleading with people to wear a face mask.

Cranston, who played Walter White in the drama series Breaking Bad, made the announcement in a video while he was donating plasma in California.

"I wanted to announce that I had COVID-19 a little while ago," he said.

Cranston said he had experienced mild symptoms including a slight headache, tightness in the chest and loss of his sense of taste and smell.

The video posted to Instagram showed Cranston going through a plasma-donation session, something he decided to do after contracting the virus.

In his post, the actor and director urged people to wear face masks, as the death toll in the United States climbed over 150,000.

"I count my blessings and urge you to keep wearing the damn mask, keep washing your hands, and stay socially distant," he wrote.

"We can prevail — but ONLY if we follow the rules together."

Mr Cranston is the latest entertainment figure to urge people to follow health advice.

After being hospitalised in Queensland with the virus, Tom Hanks wrote in March that people needed to take care of themselves.

"There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other," he wrote.
