A chilling emergency call has revealed the details of how an America’s Got Talent stuntman was seriously injured on set.
‘America’s Got Talent: Extreme’ stuntman Jonathan Goodwin landed on his head after “cars slammed into him,” a chilling 911 call has revealed.
The accident happened on Thursday night on the set of the show and in the emergency call, which was obtained by The Sun, a woman can be heard asking for help.
The caller can be heard calmly asking someone in the background: “Where is the tourniquet?” as she starts to explain how first responders can get to them quickly.
“We are at the Atlanta Motor Speedway at the America’s Got Talent filming location. We had a man suspended from a cable with cars that were supposed to slam into each other, and he didn’t drop in time and they slammed into him.”
“He’s about a 40-year-old white male. He fell about 40 feet. He missed the airbag and landed on his head.”
The caller calmly explains Jonathan’s current condition as “agonal and posturing,” and had explained the set had some Henry County Fire Department personnel that were already there on overtime.
The caller told dispatch that while Jonathan did have a pulse, he appeared to be suffering from a “neuro injury.”
They then directed to dispatch how they could be found inside the speedway, telling the call centre: “If they come in the main gate of Atlanta Motor Speedway, turn in right, we are in front of the grandstands where the cranes have the cars suspended.”
Severe injuries
The Henry County Sheriff’s Department in Georgia exclusively told The Sun that the stuntman suffered severe injuries in the incident during show rehearsals, and had to be flown to a local hospital .
The police spokesperson said: “He suffered severe injuries to his legs and several lacerations, and was flown to Grady Hospital.
“He was transported in serious condition, but is currently alive, alert and well.
“There are no plans for a criminal investigation at this time and any further investigations would be done by AGT.”
A source close to production exclusively told The Sun that AGT’s show tapings with live audiences have been cancelled until at least Monday.
A spokesperson for the show confirmed that the stuntman was injured during rehearsals, and immediately taken to the hospital.
The representative said: “During a rehearsal last evening for America’s Got Talent: Extreme, an accident occurred in which escape artist Jonathan Goodwin was injured while performing his act.
“He was responsive and was immediately taken to the hospital where he is continuing to receive medical care.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family as we await further updates on his condition.”
According to TMZ, Jonathan, 41, sustained “brutal injuries” after a wild stunt went horrifically wrong.
The UK native was hanging “70 feet in the air in a straight-jacket hanging by his feet from a wire,” a source told the outlet.
Two cars were reportedly suspended on either side of him, swinging back and forth.
The source said: “The stunt was for him to free himself from the restraints and then fall on an air mattress, and avoid getting crushed by the cars as they swung in the air.”
A mishap apparently occurred when the two cars smashed into each other, leaving Jonathan “sandwiched” in between.
The TMZ source recalled: “The impact caused the cars to explode, erupting in a gigantic fireball. He fell to the ground and hit his head.”
After the crash, Jonathan was unresponsive, and the cast and crew believed him to be dead.
Daring past
Jonathan returned to AGT after initially bringing his daredevil routines to the show in 2020 when he finished as a semifinalist.
The stunt artist was invited back to film AGT: Extreme, hosted by Terry Crews with judges Nikki Bella, Travis Pastrana, and Simon Cowell.
Jonathan was born and raised in Pembrokeshire, Wales, and his risky career path has appeared on several TV shows throughout the years.
Most notably, the daredevil has appeared on Discovery Channel’s One Way Out, and How Not To Become Shark Bait where he was attacked by a Caribbean reef shark.
In 2012, Jonathan was given his own show on UKTV’s Watch called The Incredible Mr. Goodwin.
He completed life-threatening stunts including “extreme planking” and climbing skyscrapers.
While appearing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2019, Jonathan allowed himself to be “buried alive,” the first time the act has ever been performed on stage.
Second chance at love
The star married fellow performer Katy Goodwin in 2011, but after the couple split ways in 2019, he continued to raise their daughter Milli on his own.
He just announced his engagement to English actor Amanda Abbington, best known for her role as Miss Mardle on Mr. Selfridge.
In May, NBC revealed that production had begun for their brand new spin-off of the country’s favourite talent competition.
The network wrote on Twitter at the time: “Oh you thought #AGT was extreme enough already?
“We’re taking the most outrageous and jaw-dropping daredevil acts and having them vie for the ultimate title in AGT: Extreme, coming soon to @NBC!”
Producers explained that competitors will go “head-to-head in the most wild, wacky and craziest stunts to vie for the ultimate title.”
