Senior royal dies ‘unexpectedly’ at 51 - news.com.au

Prince Constantin of Liechtenstein has died “unexpectedly” at the aged 51.

He was the youngest of the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein’s three sons, and seventh in line to the throne.

A statement released by the principality’s royal house confirmed the tragic news on Wednesday.

“The Princely House regrets to announce that H.S.H. Prince Constantin von und zu Liechtenstein passed away unexpectedly on 5 December 2023,” it read.

“Prince Constantin was the youngest son of Prince Hans-Adam II. He leaves behind his wife, Princess Marie of Liechtenstein, née Countess Kálnoky of Kőröspatak, and his children Prince Moritz, Princess Georgina and Prince Benedikt.”

No cause of death has been given.

The prince’s wife and children have not yet commented on his sudden passing. Constantin was seventh in line to the Liechtensteiner throne when he passed, behind his brothers Hereditary Prince Alois and Prince Maximillian, and their respective children.

The statement continued: “Prince Constantin was chairman of the supervisory board of Liechtenstein Group AG and a member of Board of Directors of Liechtenstein Group Holding AG.”

The senior royal married former marketing executive Marie Kálnoky de Kőröspatak in a civil service in May 1999, with a religious ceremony two months later.

The couple went on to have three children: Prince Moritz Emanuel Maria of Liechtenstein, Count of Rietberg in 2003, Princess Georgina Maximiliana Tatiana Maria of Liechtenstein, Countess of Rietbergin in 2005, and Prince Benedikt Ferdinand Hubertus Maria of Liechtenstein, Count of Rietberg in 2008.

The state parliament for the small principality, which has a population of around 40,000, held a late minute’s silence on Wednesday.

Apostolic Administrator Benno Elbs also issued a public tribute to the late royal, according to Liechtenstein’s largest daily newspaper, Vaterland.
