If you’ve done any sightseeing in Sydney over the past few days, there’s a good chance you might’ve spotted a visiting musical superstar – and an even better chance you wouldn’t have even realised.
There are few stars bigger than Pink in this country: She’s sold close to 4 million albums in Australia over her career, performing mammoth sellout tours each time she visits our shores.
But flying in to Sydney this week ahead of the opening night of her Summer Carnival stadium tour on Friday night, Pink blended in just like any other mum on holiday, taking her children to see the sights.
Two days ago, the star kept fans updated with her family day trip to Bondi.
There was no closing off restaurants for Pink and the fam; not even the usual preferred celeb dining option, a private room out the back.
Instead, Pink, husband Cary Hart and their two children Willow and Jameson lunched on tables out on the pavement, outside restaurant Bills, in the middle of busy Bondi.
“Bondi Beach it’s been too long!!!!!!! Bills was delicious, too. ️Soooooooo happy to be back on this side of the world! Thank you beautiful Australia for being our home away from home. Kids are stoked,” she wrote, alongside more photos of the family enjoying themselves along the Bondi coastal walk:
Overnight came another update, this time of Pink and her family “being tourist dorks” in the very centre of Sydney. They cycled around tourist hotspot Circular Quay, posing for photos outside the Sydney Opera House:
It seems the family holiday time has done her good: Yesterday, Pink announced that she’s quitting social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), declaring that it had become like “a party with a bunch of salty old people that never realised their dreams.”
Tomorrow night, Pink goes back into pop star mode, performing a sellout show at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, the first of 17 massive stadium dates scheduled for her first Australian tour in almost six years.
It’ll be interesting to see how Pink’s low-key time in Sydney compares to that of other stadium-filling US music superstar, Taylor Swift, who will start her Australian tour a week after Pink’s.
Like Pink, Swift hasn’t visited our shores in six years, but in that time, her star has risen immeasurably. This week, five of the top 10 albums on the ARIA chart are by Swift.
More Coverage
Swift’s tour is much shorter than Pink’s, but she does have one big gap in her schedule: Four days off between the Melbourne and Sydney legs of her visit.
Given the feverish level of public interest, it’s hard to imagine Swift biking around Circular Quay or lunching on the Bondi roadside while she’s here – at least not without causing a major public safety incident.
We can’t help but wonder whether Swift is looking at Pink’s low-key family snaps with envy, wishing she could fly under the radar like that and perhaps do some sightseeing with boyfriend Travis Kelse.
