Sydney’s severe weather forecast is less than ideal for Taylor Swift’s upcoming highly anticipated Eras tour shows.
The singer is due to perform four sold-out concerts from Friday to Monday to a whopping 80,000 Swifties each night at Sydney’s Accor stadium.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a high chance of showers and thunderstorms during her Friday and Saturday night shows, but nothing will rain on Taylor’s parade... unless it poses a safety concern.
The seasoned professional is no stranger to performing in the rain. Her 2018 reputation tour concert at Sydney’s ANZ stadium went ahead despite heavy rain and lighting.
In a Nova radio interview after the show, Swift said the Sydney concert was “so much fun because we all just danced together in the rain”.
“I’m not going to cancel a show no matter what, unless physically they tell me that none of us can be on stage,” she said on the show.
According to Accor Stadium, “Events will go ahead rain, hail or shine” unless the safety of patrons and the artist is at risk.
While cancelling or postponing may seem unlikely, it has happened before.
In November last year, Swift postponed her show in Buenos Aires, Argentina due to extreme weather.
“I love a rain show but I’m never going to endanger my fans or my fellow performers and crew,” she wrote on X.
“We’ve rescheduled tonight’s Buenos Aires show for Sunday due to the weather being so truly chaotic it would be unsafe to try and put on this concert.”
She did the same for her show in Rio De Janeiro, postponing a show as a fan had died to due extreme temperatures.
“The safety and wellbeing of my fans, fellow performers and crew has to and will always come first,” she wrote on Instagram.
Over her entire 16-year career Taylor has only ever cancelled one show without postponing. Her Red Tour in Bangkok didn’t go ahead due to a military coup.
It’s believed Swift is staying at Crown’s presidential villa in Barangaroo while she’s in town, after a successful run in Melbourne.
Against all odds, Melbourne’s weather turned it on with ideal conditions for her three sold-out MCG shows. There were 96,000 fans each night, a record-breaking crowd for the pop star.
“Melbourne, what do I even say to you after over 288,000 of you came and danced with us in the last three nights,” she wrote.
“That was unforgettable. You were on another level. Thank you for the memories, I’ll revisit the ones from this weekend often.”
Only time will tell if any of her Sydney concerts will be impacted.
