'Severe thunderstorm' forecast to hit during Taylor Swift's Friday show - 9News

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is warning that a severe thunderstorm is likely to hit Sydney on Friday, coinciding with the first of Taylor Swift's four shows in the city.

About 400,000 people are expected at Sydney Olympic Park from Friday until Monday, with Blink 182 also performing.

But it looks like Swift will be in for a repeat of her Sydney show in the rain in 2018.

Here's what we know about the weather forecast for Swift's Sydney shows.

Friday night (February 23)

"Severe thunderstorms are likely across eastern #NSW on Friday with damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall," BoM said on X (formerly Twitter).

"Destructive winds and giant hail are also possible."

BoM is predicting the morning will start off as sunny but a thunderstorm will develop in the afternoon and evening.

The chance of rain is 80 per cent with 0 to 7mm is predicted.

The maximum temperature is forecast to be 30 degrees.

Although a rainy performance might not be ideal, Swift danced through her Eras Tour show when it poured in Massachusetts for the full three hours last year.

It was also thunderstorming the last time the pop star was in Sydney, with heavy rain falling during the one-night-only Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018 at Accor Stadium.

Saturday night (February 24)

BoM predicts the weather for Saturday will be cloudy with a high chance of light showers, with 0 to 3mm of rainfall expected in the morning.

The maximum temperature is forecast to be 24 and the minimum temperature is expected to be 19 degrees, with winds up to 30km/h... so maybe think about bringing a jacket.

Sunday (February 25)

There is only a 30 per cent chance of rain on Sunday and is expected to be partly cloudy with light winds.

The temperature is forecast to be a maximum of 27 and a minimum of 18 degrees.

Monday (February 26)

Monday will be mostly sunny but there is a 20 per cent chance of a shower.

The day is due to be a mostly sunny 27 degrees and a minimum of 18 degrees.
