What would a severe thunderstorm mean for Taylor Swift's Sydney shows? - 9News

A thunderstorm is expected to smash Sydney at the same time global pop star Taylor Swift is set to kick off the second leg of her Australian tour.

The wet conditions are forecast to persist on Saturday with showers most likely in the morning and a chance of storms.

Accor Stadium, however, said the show will go on "rain or shine".

"The only exception would be severe weather, which could impact the safety of artists and patrons," a spokesperson said.

"Such a decision would be made by NSW Police, the event promoters and Venues NSW staff."

The concerns come after about three days of heavy showers and thunderstorms that left Sydney under 80mm of rainfall earlier this week and sparked flash flooding.
Swift was met with torrential downpour when she touched down in the city on Monday when Sydney Airport recorded its highest rain in two months of 39mm.

But history has taught us the singer isn't afraid of a little rain.

She last performed in Sydney in 2018 for her Reputation Tour, braving the wet weather and continuing to perform in the rain.

Since beginning her Eras Tour almost 12 months ago, the singer has only postponed two shows due to severe weather conditions.

She postponed a show in Rio De Janeiro in November after extreme heat led to the death of a 23-year-old fan and postponed another just days earlier in Buenos Aires over severe rainfall.

"I love a rain show but I'm never going to endanger my fans or my fellow performers and crew," she said about her Buenos Aires show on social media.

Fans attending her Sunday and Monday shows are in line for mostly clear conditions as the threat of storms passes.

Sunday is forecast to see a partly cloudy day and only a slight chance of showers as Monday is anticipated to be mostly sunny also with a slight chance of showers.

The Bureau of Meteorology is monitoring conditions and will continue to update the forecasts for later this week.
