The father of Aussie actor Hugh Sheridan has died aged 75 after a long battle with cancer.
Denis Sheridan passed away in Adelaide on Monday.
Hugh paid tribute to his dad by posting a W.H. Auden poem called Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone on Instagram.
In the caption, Hugh wrote: “Denis Anthony Dominic (DAD) Ignatius Sheridan 4/8/1945 - 24/5/2021 … be free papa.”
A number of Hugh’s showbiz pals sent their condolences, including Rebecca Gibney, Anne Edmonds, Rebel Wilson, Jessica Rowe, Michael Pell and Anna Heinrich.
Denis’ death was first announced by his cousin, Neville Quist, who posted on Facebook: “Denis Sheridan my legendary cousin has exited the stage for the very last time. The King of Swing and former Lord Mayor of Unley who opened for Frank Sinatra at Sanctuary Cove has sadly passed away yesterday (Monday) surrounded by his beautiful loving family.
“Denis was the consummate entertainer who lit up every room with his charm and style,” Mr Quist said. “He sang beautifully at our wedding and into all of our hearts as long as I can ever remember.”
Denis and Hugh performed together at this year’s Adelaide Fringe, with Hugh saying later on Instagram that the shows “will remain in my mind as two of the most special performances I’ve been a part of”.
