They're the awards largely based on one thing — who sold what on the Billboard charts.
But today's award show also had some pretty high-profile acts live on stage.
Fans of the Korean supergroup BTS were pumped for the first live performance of the group's recent release, Butter (they also won four awards, not a bad night for them).
And Duran Duran premiered a new single, a collaboration with Blur's Graham Coxon. Pink was up for the Icon Award and took to the stage with daughter Willow.
But don't forget the fashion. Here's who stood out on the red carpet.
Saweetie
Yes, you can wear this much salmon/orange/pink on the red carpet. Rapper Saweetie was up for the top female rap artist this year.

Alicia Keys
This Valentino coat is making it work — all in a pink hue, of course. She celebrated 20 years since her stand-out first album, Songs in A Minor, with a live performance.

Pink
Is there any other colour the singer could wear when accepting her Icon Award? Her daughter Willow and son Jameson were right there with her.
Willow even got on stage with her mum — what a duo.

Karol G
If you can't wear pink, barely-there sequins (as demonstrated on the Latin star) were the next best thing.

Jonas Brothers
Nick Jonas was hosting but his brothers Kevin and Joe hit the red carpet with him (leather pants and all).
Bonus pic of Nick Jonas and wife Priyanka Chopra looking gorgeous. You're welcome.

The Weeknd
It's gone! The iconic red suit is o.v.e.r. The star (who was up for the most awards — 16 categories all up) has gone all black, but in Valentino of course.

Doja Cat
And it was all black and white for the winner of this year's top R&B female artist award.
