Britney Spears fans replace Justin Timberlake’s ‘It’s Gonna Be May’ meme after singer slammed her in documentary - NEWS.com.au

Britney Spears’ fans replaced Justin Timberlake’s “It’s Gonna Be May” meme.

The new meme comes after Justin was criticised for his past treatment of the singer following the release of the Framing Britney Spears documentary.

As May approaches each year, social media users often poke fun at Justin, 40, by sharing a meme inspired by the NSYNC song It’s Gonna Be Me.

In the popular song, the former boy band member sings the line with an emphasis on the word “me” so that it sounds like he’s saying “May.”

A fan of Britney, 39, decided to give the meme a new spin this year when they shared a screenshot from the singer’s Oops I Did It Again Music video.

In the 2004 song, Britney sings the line: “That is just so typically me.”

The Twitter user shared a snap of Britney in the iconic music video with text onscreen that read: “That is just so typically May.”

The creator shared their inspiration behind the post, writing: “I hate Justin Timberlake so I made this to replace the stupid ‘gonna be may’ meme — you’re welcome world.”

Many fans seemed to appreciate the new meme, as the tweet earned 24K like and was retweeted 7.1K retweeted times as of Saturday.

Following the doc’s release, Justin has been criticised for past comments he made about his ex-girlfriend Britney and the way he failed to stand up for Janet Jackson after their shocking Super Bowl 2004 performance.

Justin and Britney famously dated from 1998-2002.

Many viewers believed Justin made Britney into the “villain” of their break-up, which was soon followed by her downward spiral including drug use accusations and hospitalisation.

The former NSYNC member soon apologised to both Britney and Janet after receiving backlash, writing: “I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.

“I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”

Shortly after releasing his apology, fans accused Justin for only apologising to the women because of “the pressure put on him.”

Both Britney and Justin have moved on since their split, as the Sexy Back singer has been married to Jessica Biel since 2012.

Meanwhile, Britney went public with her boyfriend Sam Asghari since 2017.

The documentary also discussed Britney’s conservatorship battle with her father Jamie Spears.

The singer’s conservatorship was implemented in 2008 after she had a series of public meltdowns.

The arrangement put her financial assets, estate, and personal assets under the control of her father, Jamie Spears, and lawyer Andrew Wallet, who has since resigned.

Britney has made several attempts to end the conservatorship, while it was recently revealed that she will appear in court next month to speak out against her father.
