Sydney news: Guns N' Roses announces first COVID stadium tour and NSW passes land clearing laws - ABC News

Here's what you need to know this morning.

Big stadium tours are back

Rock band Guns N' Roses will tour Australia next year in the first stadium shows to be held since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The band will tour Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth after kicking off on the Gold Coast on November 6, 2021.

The announcement comes amid an outbreak that's caused Adelaide to go into lockdown, while in NSW there have been no locally acquired cases for the past 11 days.

In a statement, promoter TEG Dainty said the tour would be held in a COVID-Safe environment.

"[We] will work closely with and comply with all requirements of the public health authorities in respect of these shows," the promoter said.

Land clearing law passes

A law that allows property owners to clear land within 25 metres of their boundary was passed in NSW last night, despite the fact it was not one of the recommendations from the recent bushfire inquiry.

The Bushfires Legislation Amendment Bill, which won the support of Labor, will only exacerbate an "epidemic" of land clearing in NSW, according to Independent MP David Shoebridge.

"Clearing under this scheme will occur with no assessment and no protections, no data will be gathered, and no checks will be in place. This is a recipe for lawlessness," he said.

National Conservation Council chief executive Chris Gambian said there had been no demand for such a provision from farmers and it would be like "handing out free water pistols in the face of mega fires".

Crown wants to open everything but casino

Former staff allege Crown Casino 'tampered with poker machines'

Crown Resorts says it still wants to open a hotel, restaurants, bars, a ballroom and retail outlets in its Barangaroo complex next month, even though the gaming regulator has banned it from operating its casino.

NSW's Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) yesterday announced Crown won't be allowed to open its casino at Barangaroo on December 14 due to money laundering concerns.

It will now have to wait until an inquiry hands down a report into its business dealings and rules on whether it is fit to hold a casino licence.

The move came after Crown admitted to the inquiry that money laundering was "likely" occurring at its casinos in Melbourne and Perth.

Drowning warning for toddlers

New research shows one-year-old toddlers are the most at-risk age group for drownings among children.

Figures show they make up 40 per cent of all drowning deaths among children under five in Australia.

Alison Mahony from Royal Life Saving Australia said it was a timely reminder in the lead-up to summer.

She said most drownings occurred in baths and backyard pools, and urged parents to always supervise young children around water.

Men impersonate police and steal car

Police are seeking two men who impersonated police officers and carjacked a man in Sydney's west on Tuesday.

The two men had flashing lights on their Subaru station wagon and stopped behind a stationary car in Cambridge Park.

They asked the driver and passenger to exit their vehicle so they could perform a search but instead drove off in their car.

One man is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged between 20 and 30, about 180cm tall, with a stocky build and long hair in a ponytail.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid-30s, with a slim build.

Alcohol delivery loophole closed

Community groups have welcomed new legislation passed by the NSW Government to hold alcohol delivery companies to a higher standard.

The new laws make it mandatory for online alcohol sellers to check they are not selling illegally to those under 18.

"Nobody should be able to sell alcohol to children but until today there were no requirements to verify a person's age before they click the buy button," the CEO of the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education said.

Women's Safety NSW CEO Hayley Foster said more needs to be done though.

"Unattended delivery and rapid deliveries within two hours are still able to be made up until midnight and are putting our children and families at risk of harm."
