Rebecca Judd quits as host of the 3pm Pick-up radio show - NEWS.com.au

After a horror year, Bec Judd has decided to quit her radio show.

The mum-of-four, 37, has announced she won’t be returning to the 3pm Pick-up with Monty Dimond and Yumi Stynes next year.

Instead, Judd will be replaced on the radio show by Kate Langbroek who is set to return to Australia after moving to Italy in 2019.

Speaking on the show today, Judd explained that she was stepping back to spend more time at home with her husband and four children: Oscar, eight, Billie, six, and twins Tom and Darcy, three.

“I was shocked when you told me … it’s four years we’ve been doing this together,” co-host Dimond said reflecting on the announcement.

“You can’t understand how intimate it is … we’ve been through deaths together, babies, pregnancies … we share a lot,” she said, before asking Judd to explain her reasons for leaving to their listeners.

“It’s been one of those years … a COVID year, where we’ve spent so much time at home and as a family we’ve reprioritized what we’re doing. This is the first time since Chris finished football, which would have been back in 2015, that we haven’t had any commitments … So (he went— straight from footy, straight to lots of media commitments, and this year has taught us that we just was to take a step back and not have those weekly commitments,” she explained.

“He’s not doing radio anymore, I’m not doing radio anymore, so we’ve got a lot of freedom in our schedule and we’re very lucky to have that.

“I’ve got such a young family, my twins start school not next year but the year after so I’ve got one year left at home with them and we just want to really make the most of those golden years... they’re slipping away, those golden years” she said.

“It may not be forever, I’m just looking forward to spending the year at home with my family. We just won’t have those media commitments for a little while,” she added.

With regards to her TV work on Channel 9, Judd told news.com.au of her future with the network: “Earlier this year due to COVID travel restrictions, filming on Postcards unfortunately had to stop. I have loved my 12 years at Nine and look forward to what the future holds with the company.”

Judd has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons this year. The model, Instagram influencer and wife to ex-AFL star Chris Judd weathered several social media controversies regarding Melbourne’s coronavirus lockdown.

In September she slammed Victorian Premier “Dictator Dan” Andrews over the stage 4 lockdown keeping her cooped up in her opulent $7.3 million Brighton mansion.

“It seems Dictator Dan will be locking Victorians in our homes even longer,” she captioned one of her many Instagram sponsored posts, this one spruiking a children’s cubby house company.

Judd swiftly removed the post, but it was quick to attract criticism from Melburnians who called her “tone deaf” for complaining despite her ultra-luxurious lifestyle.

And she was later labelled “insensitive” after sporting a “Free Melbourne” T-shirt in a series of posts on her Instagram stories.

BEC JUDD’S TV CAREER OVER?

In addition to hanging up her headphones, it appears Judd could also be taking a break from TV next year.

Judd has been a host and presenter on Channel 9’s Postcards in Victoria since 2011, but the show was put on hold halfway through the year due to the pandemic and Judd hasn’t been seen on screens since.

A Nine spokesperson today told news.com.au: “COVID-19 restrictions has meant that we have been unable to film new episodes of Postcards. Rebecca is great talent and we would welcome the chance to work with her again should the right opportunity arise.”

Judd confirmed her future with Nine was up in the air but said she “looks forward to what the future holds”.

KATE LANGBROEK’S RETURN

Bec Judd will replaced on the 3pm Pick-up by Kate Langbroek with the radio veteran to be heard for the first time on the show when it returns to the KIIS Network on January 27.

“After our family adventures in Italy, I’m looking forward to returning to magnificent Australia,” Langbroek said in a press release.

“I can’t wait to join the 3pm Pick-up. I’ve missed eavesdropping on conversations I can actually understand and hanging out with like-minded friends, so naturally I am beyond excited to team up with those two Aperol Spritzes, Monty and Yumi, for some afternoon fun and funniness. Which reminds me, I promise I won’t be one of those infuriating people who returns from a stint abroad with an accent and entirely new vocabulary. See you in 2021! Grazie. And ciao!”

Langbroek’s long-time radio offsider, Dave Hughes, is all but confirmed to host the 2Day FM breakfast show in Sydney next year with Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan.

The 3PM Pick-up is on the KIIS Network 3-4pm weekdays on KIIS 1065 Sydney, KIIS 101.1 Melbourne, 97.3FM Brisbane, and MIX 102.3 Adelaide
