Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton may come face-to-face at Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding - NEWS.com.au

The “feuding” Cambridges and Sussexes could be set for an uncomfortable royal reunion at the wedding of Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz.

It is understood Brooklyn’s mother Victoria Beckham – who is a friend of both Meghan and Kate – is considering inviting both couples to the star-studded approaching nuptials.

It comes after Victoria and husband David attended both the royal weddings of Meghan and Harry and Kate and William.

The fashion designer, 46, is thought to have grown close to Meghan Markle, 39, following her and Harry’s permanent move to the US earlier this year, with the Duchess of Sussex often seen sporting Victoria’s designs.

But the former Spice Girl also attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, 38, in 2011, with David said to be a longstanding friend of both princes.

Caught between both families, Victoria is reportedly facing a dilemma over whether to invite both to her son’s wedding.

Brooklyn 21, and his actress fiancee Nicola, the 25-year-old daughter of the US tycoon Nelson Peltz, have postponed their wedding to 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. They are planning on hosting two weddings, one in Florida and one in the Cotswolds.

It’s unclear whether invitations or save-the-dates have been sent to potential guests of the Beckham wedding, however, a royal source told The Mirror: “Vic’s (Victoria) been helping Meghan with her move to LA and Meghan has helped promote Victoria’s fashion line.

“But Vic’s been worried about inviting Meghan and Harry alongside Kate and William to the wedding.

“She is not only worried about how they all might feel about being thrust together but also at how the attention will no doubt be diverted off Brooklyn and Nicola.”

The source added: “David urged Vic not to stress about it and has insisted the royals will all know how to handle the situation.”

Royal sources claim the couples have barely spoken to each other since their last official appearance together at the Commonwealth Day service in March.

They appeared to barely speak during the event, which marked the start of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping back from royal duties and making the permanent move to the US.

Since then, there have been continued reports of a rift between the princes.

Royal historian Robert Lacey, author of Battle of Brothers and adviser to Netflix’s The Crown – has meanwhile claimed Meghan and Kate regard each other as “cool professionals”, suggesting the tension is mainly between Harry and William.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he revealed of their relationship: “Meghan and Kate actually got on rather well from the start. They might not be best-buddy material, but they found themselves, sister-outsiders in their extraordinary royal situation, and both of them cool professionals, treating each other with mutual respect.

“Each was far too canny to make an enemy of a prospective sister-in-law – it only made sense to be friends.

He continued: “The fundamental conflict was between the two males who had known each other all their lives and had never hesitated to tell each other exactly what they thought and felt.”
