She catapulted onto our screens as 2019’s Bachelor ‘villain’, gifting viewers with one of the greatest finale scenes in history, snatching her hands away and visibly seething as Matt Agnew rejected her on a rock in South Africa.
But Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield’s time after the show was a tumultuous one — dotted with nasty trolling and even terrifying death threats.
More than a year on from her appearance on the Channel 10 show, Abbie’s become the latest star to feature on ABC’s new experiment Reputation Rehab, which focuses on a different ‘cancelled’ celebrity each week and dissects the intense backlash they’ve copped.
During Abbie’s appearance on Wednesday night’s episode, hosts Kirsten Drysdale and Zoe Norton Lodge examine her edit from a number of angles, including creating their very own reality TV villain using a willing participant and the production tools often employed on shows like The Bachelor.
Abbie also opened up about her time on the show, lifting the lid on what really went on during key moments of the season.

During a candid sit-down with the hosts, the It’s A Lot podcast host provided a hilarious account of exactly what went through her head during the now-iconic finale scene with astrophysicist Matt, revealing she considered “pushing him off the rock” as he broke things off.
“Also you can say her name. I know who it is. Say Chelsie, my friend,” Abbie narrated over a clip of Matt telling her he’d “fallen in love with someone else”.
“If it devastates you why are you breaking up with me,” she spat in another moment, adding: “I was gonna push him off at that point,” with a laugh.

“Oop, don’t want to touch you anymore,” she said when the moment she pulled her hands away from his replayed on the screen.
“So hard isn’t it Matt … We humped a mere four days ago,” she went on to say, referencing the steamy beach scene for which she was slammed by viewers in an earlier episode.
Sledging the former Bachelor – who split from winner Chelsie McLeod six months after filming wrapped – she added: “Does he really think he’s pulling off that maroon suit … He’s not Osher.”
Hilariously, she concluded with: “Couldn’t you have just texted me or something,” as the footage came to a close.
Elsewhere in the episode, the 25-year-old addressed her widely-mocked “I’m a Gemini” line from the first episode.
“Should I tell you the real story or should I tell you the story that I’ve told the media for the last year?” Abbie began before launching into her explanation.
“It wasn’t the worst edit in the world, but my sister is to blame.
“She was like ‘listen, if you have nothing to say, ask what his star sign is’, so I walked up to Matt, we were talking for a bit, and when he says he’s an astrophysicist, I was like ‘and now is my chance’,” she revealed.
“I looked around to the crew and I said ‘I know this isn’t the same thing’ and then I said, ‘what’s your star sign?’ and he said ‘I’m a Leo’ and then I said ‘ok, I’m a Gemini’ and then I said ‘as long as you’re not a Capricorn’ … That was it,” she said.
Tonight’s episode ended with the hosts giving Abbie a flipped edit from her time on The Bachelor – manipulating the finale footage to depict her instead breaking up with Matt on the rock in South Africa instead before strutting away.
