Julia Morris’ harrowing mid-flight ordeal - news.com.au

Australian comedian Julia Morris has revealed she suffered a miscarriage while on a plane to South Africa.

The I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! host opened up about the heartbreaking ordeal while featuring on the Two Doting Dads podcast this week, saying she was 38 at the time it happened.

Morris, now 56, fell pregnant with her then-husband Dan Thomas just as she was about to head overseas to perform at the Cape Town Comedy Festival.

“I got onto the flight and I thought, ‘Oh, I’m bleeding’,” Morris told co-hosts Matty ‘J’ Johnson and Ash Wicks.

“As I was getting on the flight, I had nothing with me. I was in the bathroom for ages and I’m like, ‘OK, this is happening.’”

The mother-of-two went on to say she was sitting next to fellow comedian Andrew Maxwell, who unknowingly made an ill-timed joke about her lengthy stint in the bathroom.

“[He] is a very funny Irish comedian, and I came back from the bathroom and he goes, ‘How long was the poo that you had to do’?” Morris said.

“I was sitting there along with this kind of sadness … But I also knew we’d try again.

“I was 38 and then I started to think … Which again, fertility wasn’t talked about as much. I would love people to speak about it more because what it will give us is a proper spectrum into the many different feelings you can have about it.

“I was in a headspace of, ‘I just want to get on with trying again because I want that sadness to go away.’ Because that sadness will then be replenished by the happiness.”

Morris did go on to have two daughters, now teenagers Ruby and Sophie, with her British comedian husband.

The couple announced their split in 2021 after 16 years of marriage.

In a candid chat with Stellar Magazine two years later, Morris said that she felt “free” after the demise of their long-term relationship.

“I have become an Olympic medallist in running him down,” she said at the time.

“But to be honest, I have been trying to stop doing that because I don’t want to let him into my life at all anymore. I’m free.”
