Prince Harry smiling as he jets home to Meghan for Archie’s birthday - Sky News Australia

Prince Harry has hastily left the United Kingdom and jetted home to his family in Montecito after the coronation of King Charles and Camilla.

The second child of the King took no official part in the historic ceremony and was seen without military or royal dress, donning a simple morning suit emblazoned with his medals.

But during the procession, the US-based Prince cut a lonely figure walking to his seat at Westminster Abbey behind Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank.

He was caught grinning throughout the ceremony, chatting with Brooksbank while the television cameras’ view of him was obscured by Princess Anne’s headwear.

The Prince left Westminster immediately following the conclusion of the coronation ceremony, missing an intimate lunch with senior royals to return home to his Montecito mansion.

Shortly after, he was papped entering the Windsor Suite at Heathrow Airport in London still in his suit and medals.

Lipreading experts spotted Harry and Brooksbank talking as they took their seats ahead of the coronation ceremony.

The Prince said he would be “heading off” before uttering the words “airport” and “3:45”, a lipreader told the Daily Express.

Harry was left alone at the coronation after his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, chose to skip the royal event to stay in California for their son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.

Much was made of their attendance with months of drawn-out speculation over whether the LA-based royals would put aside internal family feuds and join the King for the historic day.

Prince Harry and Meghan controversially delayed their RSVP well beyond the deadline of April 3 after being sent an email invitation by King Charles back in March.

Prince Harry will not appear on the balcony during King Charles’ coronation

Buckingham Palace confirmed to Sky News UK that the Prince was invited back for the afternoon.

Report Kay Burley later said the invitation was extended to attend a lunch with many viewing it as an olive branch from the King.

The Duke of Sussex arrived to the London church with his royal cousins minutes before King Charles where he shared brief conversations and exchanged smiles.

He could be seen speaking with Princess Beatrice's husband Edoardo Mapello Mozzi before he joined his wife to walk down the Abbey's long hallway.
