Fifi Box says undergoing IVF to conceive her second daughter was more important than finding a man to start a family with: 'Motherhood is the only thing I really care about'
Fifi Box has revealed that motherhood is her top priority in life, and her decision to undergo IVF to conceive her second child was more important than finding love.
The Fox FM presenter who had three-year-old daughter Daisy using an anonymous sperm donor, tells this week's issue of Stellar Magazine that she didn't 'have the luxury of finding the right time' when it came to expanding her family.
'Motherhood is everything. It's the only thing I really care about,' the 45-year-old confessed.
'When Trixie was two, and I was 38, 39, I did suddenly go, "Hang on a second, I want more children. I'd love that."
'I was faced with what I imagine a lot of women in their mid to late 30s, particularly who are single, are faced with: how is that going to happen?'
Ultimately, Fifi was more concerned with having more children than finding a man to provide that opportunity for her.
'It was an epiphany. I thought, I've got the rest of my life to fall in love but I don't have the rest of my life to have this baby,' she said.
'So going on that IVF journey to have Daisy became a real priority. Quite literally.'
Fifi previously revealed on her radio program Fifi, Fev & Nick that the process was 'brutal' and 'eye opening'.
She went on to say she only had a seven per cent chance of falling pregnant when she went through the process and considers Daisy a 'gift'.
'It was incredibly eye opening because it was brutal. This is the thing that we don't necessarily get taught at school is the decline in your egg health from about 33, 35 onwards - it deteriorates at a rate of knots,' she told her co-hosts.
Box, who also shares her nine-year-old daughter Trixie with ex-partner Grant Kenny, had 33 eggs collected in total with only three embryos making it with the donor sperm.
'My egg quality had deteriorated so much. Freeze your eggs, it's trickier to get to your late 30s and start freezing your eggs,' she warned.
She continued: 'I would go to the clinic and there are endless boxes of tissues. I would see couples, you'd see women just distraught going through cycle upon cycle.
'I thought, 'I want another baby more than anything.' I've got the rest of my life to fall in love, I didn't have the rest of my life to have a baby.'
Fifi announced her second pregnancy in February of 2019 and declared she was filled with 'pure joy' over her 'miracle' baby.
Box and Kenny, 55, a former Ironman, split in 2012 after a brief romance. A few months later, the radio star gave birth to Trixie.
She did not publicly confirm that Kenny was Trixie's father until the child was three years old.
