A "disappointed" King Charles took a moment to raise a toast to Prince Archie as Prince Harry fled the United Kingdom immediately after his historic crowning.
A source told the Daily Mail the King paid a moving tribute to his grandson, who turned four on the same day of his historic crowning, during a private family lunch at Buckingham Palace on Saturday afternoon.
The insider said His Majesty first raised a glass to nine-year-old Prince George, eight-year-old Princess Charlotte and five-year-old Prince Louis.
He then toasted “those that weren’t there” the source claims, wishing Prince Archie a very happy birthday “wherever you are”.
“It was apparently a very sweet moment,” the insider told the publication.
A well-placed source told the outlet the King seemed "genuinely quite disappointed" that Harry join him for lunch, however, most of the royal family "breathed a sigh of relief" that he didn't.
The Duke of Sussex arrived at Westminster Abbey on Saturday morning looking dapper in a custom made three-piece suit by fasion house Dior adorned with military service medals.
The historic event marked the 38-year-old’s first public appearance appearance alongside his family since his explosive memoir Spare was released in January.
It was reported ahead of the historic crowning that King Charles had extended an olive branch to Prince Harry by inviting him to the private lunch.
“The Palace have told us that Prince Harry has been invited back to Buckingham Palace this afternoon,” Sky News UK said.
“They would not say whether he has said yes or not, we know it's a flying visit.”
But despite the invite, the US-based Prince left the United Kingdom immediately after the ceremony to jet home to California to be there for his son’s birthday.
He is understood to have arrived back in Los Angeles on a British Airways flight at about 7:30pm on Saturday (local time).
The Duke was left alone at the coronation after his wife, Meghan Markle, chose to skip the royal event.
