Coronavirus has thrown a big spanner in the works for film and television academies when it comes to hosting the usual lavish red carpets and award ceremonies.
Some award shows, such as the Oscars, have been postponed but the Emmys are going ahead, pandemic be damned.
But the crucial need for social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 means this year's ceremony won't look like anything you've seen before.
Here's what you can expect.
It won't be held at the usual Microsoft Theatre venue in LA
Instead, the Emmys will be virtual.
As for just how that will play out for live telecast on September 21 Australian time (or how they'll make it not look like a Zoom call), the details are not crystal clear.
Variety has published a letter signed by executive producers Ian Stewart, Reggie Hudlin, Guy Carrington, David Jammy and this year's host Jimmy Kimmel to this year's nominees explaining where things were at.
"As you've probably guessed, we're not going to be asking you to come to the Microsoft Theatre in downtown LA on September 20th," the letter reads.
Winners will accept their awards from home … or wherever they are
The letter assured nominees that a "top notch team" of writers, producers and technicians would be assembled to work with each nominee and whoever they're with, wherever they're located.
"We're going to make you look fabulous," the letter promised.
Details about just what nominees will film, and whether it will be live, don't seem to be ironed out yet.
One possible scenario is successful nominees pre-recording their acceptance speeches — another involves all nominees being set up with a livestream, ready for cut-to reactions as winners are announced.
But with production crews working with nominees, it's bound to be a higher-end production that your standard glitchy Zoom call (and at least one gag about forgetting to hit mute).
Knowing entertainers, we're bound to see some bold creative licence taken when it comes to where they're set up and what they include in their backdrops.
There won't be a red carpet, but there will still be fashion
The informal theme of the night is "come as you are, but make an effort", so while some nominees may opt for comfortable pyjamas, we could also see some full-length gowns and three-piece suits.
To be honest, if we're talking about entertainers who haven't had an excuse to dress up since March, it's likely going to be the latter.
The letter also told nominees in places such as the UK, who have to get up at 3:00am for the virtual ceremony, they were welcome to attend from the comfort of their bed, so we'll be looking out for the likes of Olivia Coleman, Paul Mescal, Jodie Comer and Helena Bonham Carter.
Members won't be attending any pre-voting viewing parties
When nominations are announced for award ceremonies, producers and studio heads often send DVDs of their work to Academy members in the hope that members will watch and vote for the work.
They often also host screening parties, but coronavirus and restrictions on mass gatherings have prevented those from going ahead this year.
That being said, some studios have found ways around that. According to Deadline, Disney held a drive-in viewing party at the Rose Bowl in California.
But you can guarantee there WILL be surprises
While many of the classic hallmarks of awards ceremonies will be missing in this year's Emmys, you're guaranteed a show like you've never seen before.
Actor and producer Reese Witherspoon, whose shows Big Little Lies, The Morning Show and Little Fires Everywhere attracted a slew of nominations, says even she has no idea what to expect.
"It's going to be a different experience, I mean are we all going to be in our pyjamas or … I'm definitely going to be eating takeout!" she said.
