Bardot’s Tiffani Wood slam’s Sophie Monk for her appearance as the Dragonfly on The Masked Singer - PerthNow

Sophie Monk’s return to the stage has been overshadowed after a former Bardot bandmate issued a brutal take down of her surprise TV appearance.

Last night, Monk was unveiled as the Dragonfly on The Masked Singer, shocking the judges as she had not sung in public for years.

But, when it was revealed that she was behind the disguise, her former bandmate Tiffani Wood criticised her choice to appear on the show after distancing herself from the band.

“I thought Sophie was too busy for a Bardot reunion. I mean she’s wearing a dragonfly costume singing on a stage while I have to try and get six kids to sleep before the show comes on …” she posted on Instagram last night.

Fellow Bardot bandmate Sally Polihronas reposted the story alongside the word “Boom”, indicating she may support Wood.

In her post, Wood also insinuated that the appearance could be a stepping stone for Monk to reinvigorate her music career.

“Think I’ll go one step further and predict a new single release. Coming to a radio station near you and played by her besty Jackie O first,” she wrote.

But, this morning it appears Wood was regretting the spray after it made international headlines and, apparently, resulted in death threats from fans.

She claimed any talk of a Bardot reunion “was a joke” and offered an apology to Monk.

“Omg I can’t believe what I posted as a sarcastic joke post or 2 has made news (sic),” she wrote.

“I want to apologise to @sophiemonk first of all and to anyone else I offended or it seems triggered. It was never my intention to offend anyone and I honestly have zero interest in hurting people.

“Note to self: don’t post things related to Sophie — they get in the news and I get death threats.”

Bardot were an Australian girl group who were formed in 1999 on the reality television series Popstars and released hits like Poison before disbanding in 2002.

Earlier this year Wood, Belinda Chapple and Katie Underwood formed a brief mini-reunion to mark the 20 year anniversary of their hit single, performing it online in April.

While Monk enjoyed a brief solo career in 2003, last night she said she had been so “burned” by the industry that she had avoided singing for the past 17 years.

Since then, she has carved out a career as an actress and model, while also appearing on an endless list of reality TV shows including The Bachelorette, Love Island, Australia’s Got Talent and Celebrity Apprentice.

But there appears to be no love lost between Monk and some of her bandmates, especially Wood, who revealed in April that the two hadn’t spoken since the band’s break-up in 2002.

“Sophie … I haven’t spoken to her in 18 years. As far as I know, the answer (to reuniting) is no. I don’t know why. I think she is doing bigger and better things, maybe. I’m probably the wrong person to ask,” she said.

Around the same time she also said that Monk deciding not to be involved in the reunion and displayed “a lack of gratitude for honouring her roots. If it weren’t for Bardot she may not be in the public eye doing what she likes now”.

But, last night Monk said she was ecstatic about returning to the stage.

“I have to thank The Masked Singer Australia. I was embarrassed to sing in the shower. I have not sung for 17 years, I got burnt by the industry. Jackie always asked if I would sing again and I said never,” she said.

“There's something about the disguise that makes it so much easier to just bring out confidence. You're not worrying about what people think about you, no one was judging me, I could just sing.”

During an interview with The Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning, she also revealed that she had written a song with the show’s vocal coach.
