Dancing With The Stars Australia judge Sharna Burgess says she was asked to be this year’s Bachelorette before Elly and Becky Miles.
Speaking to Us Weekly, Sharna revealed producers approached her with the offer prior to the pandemic.
She said she was “on the fence” about accepting, but ultimately turned them down given she lives in the US and it “didn’t feel right” doing the show in Australia.

“I was initially like, ‘Sure.’ I mean, that could be fun. And then as I got into it, there was something that didn’t feel right, which is odd because I love the show worldwide,” she said.
“For some reason, my instincts were saying, ‘Don’t do it,’ which was very bizarre. I’ve had to trust my instincts my whole life, they’ve led me to where I am now.”
She went on to say that she’d be more likely to accept the lead on the US instalment of the reality show.
“I live here, you know?” she added.
“So it also makes more sense for me to do it here. I don’t have plans to permanently move back to Australia. I would love to be half and half, you know, go to Australia and work, but my life is based here.
“I want to raise my kids here … It feels like it makes more sense. There’s less questions at the end of it for me, like, ‘OK, well where do we live? And what do we do?’ It makes more sense for me.”
Back in March, TV Blackbox’s Benjamin Norris reported Burgess had signed on the dotted line to star on the reality dating show.
“The contract is dry and she is going to be The Bachelorette,” Norris said on the TV Blackbox podcast.

In response to the report, a Channel 10 spokesman said: “We welcome speculation about the identity of the new Bachelorette. We are thrilled that so many talented and accomplished women have expressed interest in appearing on the show. We are in the very early stages of casting and an announcement will be made in the coming months.”
It came after weeks of rumours Burgess was a contender to be The Bachelorette, with the professional dancer telling TV Week that it all stemmed from a joke she made at last year’s Melbourne Cup.
“Ten were saying to me (after the joke), ‘Are you serious about this? Would you want to do it? Let’s have a conversation,’” she told the publication. “And then I realised this could be a real thing if I wanted it to be.”
Burgess admitted in February that she would be nervous about signing on to do the program given the “unbelievable” level of drama she’s seen on the US version of the show.
It was announced last month that fan favourite Elly Miles, 25, who won hearts across Australia and came in fifth on Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor last year, will be the one handing out roses this time around – joined by her sister Becky, 30.
The casting of the siblings, who are from Parkes in regional NSW, marks a world first for the global franchise.
“I crave a life filled with happiness, adventure and good times. I’m looking for my best mate to share those memories with,” Elly, who works as a nurse, said of becoming the Bachelorette.
“I feel extremely blessed to be on this unique ride with Becky. Having her love, support and guidance throughout this journey is so important to me and I can’t wait to be there for her, on her journey to find love as well.”
Meanwhile, her fellow suitor and sister Becky, a defence contracting specialist, said she’s looking to find someone who will “go that extra mile, to have fun with, and be my best friend”.
The Bachelorette has begun filming and is expecting to land on Ten later this year.
