Three months after she died aged 30 on 2 May, singer-songwriter Cady Groves' official cause of death has been revealed.
According to US Today, the Davidson County Medical Examiner's Office in Nashville told the outlet that the country singer died from complications caused by chronic ethanol abuse.
Ethanol, also called alcohol or ethyl alcohol, is the main ingredient in alcoholic drinks like beer, wine and spirits.
Cady's brother, Cody Groves, first broke the news of his sister's death, announcing it on 4 May via Twitter in an emotional post, writing that that she had "left this world."
"Details are limited right now but family is trying to get them and will keep people updated," he wrote at the time. "Rest In Peace little sis."
In a follow up tweet, he said that pending the coroner's report, the 'This Little Girl' hitmaker died from "natural causes."
"I hate that I even have to do this, but apparently the world and Internet is a cluster of twisted misinformation," Cody wrote at the time. "The medical examiner has completed autopsy and there was no indication of foul play or self harm. Simply put, Cady Groves died of natural causes."
"She had some medical problems last fall and our best guess at this point until further testing is complete is that they had resurfaced," he continued.
"Please respect her name and family before sharing information that did not come directly from here."
At the time of her passing, when a fan questioned the cause of Cady's death at such a young age, Cody hit back via the social media platform, telling the person to "educate" themselves.
"I didn't say old age," he tweeted. "Death from natural causes might be old age, a heart attack, stroke, illness, or infection."
Born in Emporia, Kansas, Cady is the third sibling in her family to die young. Two of her brothers both died age 28 — Casey Groves on 23 October 2007, and Kelly Groves on 23 March, 2014.
Cady is survived by her seven siblings — Cody, Kevan, Kyle, Kelsy, Adam, Carrie and Courtney — as well as her parents, Carol Pettit and Larry Groves.
