Kate Beckinsale has taken to social media to mourn the heartbreaking loss of her stepfather.
The Hollywood star, who first announced the tragic news over the weekend, and has now taken to Instagram to break her silence with a touching statement.
Roy had been hospitalised last month after he suffered a “massive stroke”, and had been fighting two aggressive forms of cancer since last year.
Beckinsale had previously been seen rushing to hospital to be by his side while still wearing her gown from the Golden Globes.
On Tuesday, she broke her silence with a heart-wrenching statement on Instagram.
“I have no words yet,” wrote the star alongside a video of her stepfather. “I fought for you with everything I had. Oh Roy I am so sorry I lost.”
Beckinsale’s fans rushed to share their condolences, with many urging the Hollywood star not to blame herself for his passing.
“I think you did everything you probably could for him,” replied one follower. “You brought him back to California and gave him really good treatment and you showed up. That’s what matters. I almost died from cancer, lemme just say from experience showing up is very important and powerful because some people aren’t strong enough to do that dude.”
Another added: “You are remarkable Kate. Your love for your family it’s just obvious. So sorry for your loss. Much love to you and your family”.
Last month, the Underworld actress, 50, asked fans for prayers to support the British TV director as his health had been declining.
“We need a miracle,” she wrote on social media. “This week has taken an even scarier turn involving the health of my beloved stepdad, Roy, and we need every tiny scrap of love and magic in the hope he pulls through.”

She added that if people “would be kind enough to send healing energy his way, I’d be so grateful. I’d never forgive myself if I didn’t try every single thing and then would wonder for the rest of my life if that would have helped.”
Battersby married Beckinsale’s mother, Judy Lowe, on her 50th birthday in 1997. The actress’ father, Richard Beckinsale, died in March 1979 from a heart attack.
