The Princess of Wales being hospitalised for two weeks and needing to recuperate for three months after surgery is a “real shock,” royal commentator Jennie Bond has said.
Kensington Palace revealed on Thursday the Princess of Wales had been admitted to the London Clinic for planned abdominal surgery.
The 42-year-old is likely to spend up to three months recovering at home after being discharged from hospital.
Princess Kate is “usually the absolute picture of health” which makes her health scare even more alarming, Ms Bond said.
“It was a real shock. It really did make my jaw drop and the fact that she's going to be in for a fortnight,” Bond told GB news.
Ms Bond said the fact that Kate had to cancel a diary packed full of royal engagements until after Easter indicates the surgery likely wasn’t planned long.
“We're told it was a planned procedure, that it was an abdominal problem, that it is not cancer," she said.
“But nevertheless to be in hospital for two weeks and then to go on to recuperation for up to three months and have a very full diary cancelled means it may well not planned for very long.”
The palace said Princess Kate wished for her medical information to remain private, but it did reveal the planned procedure was successfully carried out on Tuesday.
Updates on the 42-year-old’s condition will only be provided if there is “significant new information to share” a statement released on Thursday said.
Meanwhile, King Charles is set to be admitted to hospital within the next week to undergo a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate.
Buckingham Palace revealed the King's health battle in a statement on Wednesday and said the 75-year-old's condition is “benign”.
“In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the statement said.
“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.”
